Opportunity Working as a Consultant in Old Age Psychiatry, you will be responsible for the care and treatment of patients in your clinical charge, with the service to be as community-orientated as possible. Duration -12-24 month contract with a view to go permanent  The main responsibilities of this role are to provide high-quality Mental Health Care for older people with severe and enduring mental health problems both inpatients and outpatients, dealing with needs such as Alzheimer`s, Parkinson`s, and Huntington`s Diseases, as well as individuals with early onset dementias, schizophrenia, and mood disorders As a Consultant psychiatrist, you will work closely with other teams and Consultants to ensure coherent and high-quality mental health care for older people with severe and enduring mental health problems within the Cork/Kerry area. As a leader, you will have a key role in teaching, managing, coaching, and engaging in the practice and education of medical students, medical staff, and other allied health professionals as appropriate. Psychiatry of Later Life Team provides specialist mental health services to people over sixty-five who are coming to the service for the first time. Basic Salary scale between € 233,527- € 280,513 in accordance with the HSE 2023 Consultant contract Full comprehensive relocation package on offer Additional remuneration for on-call duties and overtime as applicable Highly flexible contract that enables consultants opportunity for a variety of different work patterns Up to €12,000 CME and €8,000 research grant 30 days annual leave 10 public holidays Continuous Medical Education leave Hours: 37 hours per week, plus on-call supplements Essential Criteria Specialist Registration with the Irish Medical Council or eligibility for Specialist Registration UK and EEA candidates with Specialist Registration in Psychiatry can apply 5 - 10 years' relevant post-graduation experience Possesses a detailed knowledge and understanding of the relevant specialist domain: Old Age Psychiatry Location: Cork Cork is the second largest city in the Republic of Ireland located in the Southern Region and is known as the food capital of Ireland. Cork City is smaller, more affordable, and more laid back than Dublin but still has a vibrant nightlife, fantastic restaurants and pubs, and a thriving music and culture scene. Ireland is ranked 5th of the countries with the highest education in the world and has a number of private schools and Universities, it also has an airport with destinations across Europe and the UK. Cork has a sizable expat community, including a strong European core and people from other parts of the world.
