Role / Department: Operational Resilience is a key area of focus across Northern Trust – our ability to remain resilient is a top priority for our clients and regulators.
Building on the work being done globally, we are creating a new role to oversee the implementation of operational resilience requirements across all UK Asset Servicing legal entities.

Reporting to the EMEA CAO, the UK Head of Operational Resilience will work with senior executives to ensure that we implement and maintain standards and that UK regulatory requirements are met.
They will act as the interface with the Asset Servicing Resiliency Office, helping to ensure that the global framework is delivered locally.
They will also play a role in UK legal entity governance and develop into a SME with both internal and external stakeholders.

Major Duties: Responsible for the coordination of legal entity Important Business Services (IBS) owners across all UK Asset Servicing legal entities.
Role holder will be designated a UK Certificated Person responsible for overseeing the firm's operational resiliency systems and controls on behalf of the Head of Branch / CEO for The Northern Trust Company London Branch, Northern Trust Global Services UK Branch, Northern Trust Investor Services Limited and Northern Trust Securities LLP.
Member of the UK Operational Resilience and Outsourcing Committee (UK OROC) working group and, initially, a standing attendee of UK OROC.
Maintains oversight, with the support of the Asset Servicing and Technology Resiliency Offices, of the Business Services Lifecycle in accordance with the Corporate Operational Resilience Policy and Standard for relevant UK legal entities.
Coordinating the identification/assessment of Business Services by legal entity; Coordinating the confirmation of IBS by legal entity; Coordinating value chain and independency analysis required to deliver each IBS, identifying resiliency vulnerabilities that could cause a breach of the IBS impact tolerance; Coordinating the process to define the impact tolerance for each IBS; and Coordinating business testing of the ability to remain within stated impact tolerance objectives in the event of a severe but plausible disruption to operations.
Facilitates the approval of IBS and impact tolerances by the IBS owner and Head of Branch / CEO at legal entity level.
Prepares and supports the facilitation of governance to enable senior management to steer the decision of relevant UK legal entities towards continuous strengthening of resilience.
Maintains the self-assessment documentation for each legal entity (including overseeing the completion of specific sections by the different IBS owners / business functions).
Engages with Heads of Branch / CEO and IBS owners to promote consistent setting of resiliency risk appetite by legal entities.
Performs and documents assessments of risk acceptances and exceptions, and obtains approval from relevant senior executives and risk governance forums for any deviation from the requirements of operational resilience policies.
Participates in lessons learned from internal and external events, consultations or regulatory changes that may require a reassessment of relevant UK legal entity resilience set-up.
Supports and promotes a resiliency culture within relevant UK legal entities, including engaging in the development of training on operational resilience.
Supports client engagement and due diligence requests in relation to UK Asset Servicing legal entity IBS.
Knowledge / Skills: Stakeholder management, with proven ability to direct virtual teams of senior stakeholders to successful outcomes.
Pragmatic, logical and rigorous approach.
Proven track-record in presenting to senior management with excellent written and oral presentation abilities.
Knowledge of operational resiliency including disaster/business recovery, business continuity management, 3rd party vendor/outsourcing, corporate risk policies and standards.
Good understanding of risk management practices and how they apply in Financial Services organisations including the impact of regulation on operational resiliency matters.
Analytical skills, including the ability to present ideas clearly to others and to identify and escalate issues of concern to management, as appropriate.
Ability to drive to execution.
Self-motivated, curious and able to work autonomously.
Experience Required: Extensive experience in risk, resiliency or operational control environments.
