Core Components of this ApprenticeshipDuring your apprenticeship, you will acquire valuable skills and knowledge, including:
All aspects of the role of a multi-skilled maintenance technician, covering mechanical, electrical, controls, and fluid power skills knowledge and safety behaviours.You will build your skills over a 36-month period - starting in September - that will include:Classroom-based training hosted offsiteOn-the-job training program, delivered by our specialist teamsMentoring from our RME engineersAlongside extensive development of your technical skills, you will also grow your abilities in crucial complementary areas like organization, prioritization, data analysis, problem-solving techniques, teamwork, communication, and presentation skills.
The first 16 weeks of each year you will be full-time residential (classroom training) at one of our training providers' facilities.
As a result, you may be required to travel to the accommodation on a Sunday and to work away from home until Friday each week during term-time (costs will be supported by Amazon), combined with short periods working at one of our Fulfilment Centres/Sort Centres/Delivery Stations.
Subsequent years will comprise on-the-job training in a Fulfilment Centre while concurrently completing academic training.
Not only will you receive invaluable learning, development, and professional experience, but you will also gain a number of externally recognized qualifications.
Key Job ResponsibilitiesAs an OEM apprentice, you will work in our Reliability and Maintenance Engineering (RME) team and with one of our national engineering apprenticeship providers to build your engineering skills, knowledge, and behaviours over a 3-year period.
Apprentices based in Ireland will spend the first 16 weeks of each year at a training centre.
Working Monday to Friday each week, during your time at the training centre, you will undertake a wide range of engineering skills in mechanical, electrical, fluid power, and controls disciplines, as well as commencing your academic studies.
All travel, accommodation, and associated costs during this period of training will be covered by Amazon.
During the remainder of the year, you will be based at one of our facilities (fulfilment centre, sortation centre, or delivery station).
Working alongside skilled engineers, you will put into practice the core skills that you have learned and build on these as you learn the role of a maintenance engineer at Amazon.
QualificationsFor the apprenticeship program, we prioritize applicants eligible for government funding for their apprenticeship.
For this, you need to:
Have lived in the UK or in the European Economic Area (EEA) for the last 3 yearsBe a resident of Ireland for the duration of the apprenticeshipYou will be 18 years old or older before the contract's start dateYou will have obtained a Leaving Certificate with five 06 or higher grades which must include Mathematics or Leaving Certificate Applied with five passes plus Level 5 Mathematics and one year of industry experience.Alternatively, have successfully completed an approved pre-apprenticeship training course in an engineering discipline and demonstrate proficiency in Mathematics similar to 06 in Leaving Certificate.Or a full award placed at Level 5 on the National Framework of Qualifications (EQF 4) which includes proficiency in Mathematics similar to 06 in Leaving Certificate.In the case where an applicant is 23 years or over (or employed in the OEM sector for 3 years) and does not meet the educational requirements specified above, they may apply through the Recognised Prior Learning (RPL) process.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS will need to be met.Additional qualifications include:
A deep interest in maintenance and a strong willingness to become a multi-skilled technician in both electrical and mechanical disciplinesA desire to learn practical workshop/tool usage skillsAbility to read, understand and communicate in English, interact and engage comfortably with people at all levels of the businessA desire to learn how to fault find and repair automation systems and machineryAbility to follow a list of guidelines and instructions (verbal or written) to deliver results and meet deadlinesA hands-on attitude, flexible, adaptable, and proactiveAim to attain impeccable customer service and excellent customer-facing skillsSeek and respond well to feedbackExperience (or a willingness to learn and practice) working to appropriate health & safety standards and regulationsAmazon is an equal opportunities employer.
