Clinical Nurse Manager I Day Ward - UPMC Aut Even Location: Aut Even Hospital Job type: Permanent Overview of role: UPMC Aut Even Hospital are recruiting a Clinical Nurse Manager I Day Ward on a full-time, permanent basis.
The post of CNM I has a pivotal role in the day-to-day management of the Surgical Day Service ensuring optimum patient flow and efficiency with the elective surgical patient.
The post holder will act as a delegate in the absence of CNMII.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities: Professional /Clinical The CNM I will: Support the CNM11 to manage patient care to ensure the highest professional standards using an evidence based, care planning approach Provide a high level of professional and clinical leadership Be responsible for the co-ordination, assessment, planning, delivery and review of service user care by all staff in designated area.
Provide safe, comprehensive nursing care to service users within the guidelines laid out by NMBI.
(Nursing & Midwifery Board of Ireland) Participate in teams / meetings / committees as appropriate, communicating and working in co-operation with other team members Facilitate co-ordination, co-operation and liaison across healthcare teams Collaborate with service users, family, carers, and other staff in treatment / care Assess, Plan, Implement and evaluate nursing care by personal involvement and supervising the activities of other qualified nurses.
To ensure that the care delivered by team is based on standards, which have been formulated on evidence-based practice, and agreed, through hospital policy.
To regularly evaluate and monitor patient care by using the hospitals quality systems to ensure that care is delivered.
To develop and promote good relationships with patients, families and carers and make the ward environmentally welcoming and homely.
To work as an effective member of the multidisciplinary team promoting good teamwork and excellent patient care To evaluate and further develop the philosophy, objectives and goals of the department.
To ensure that all staff are familiar with the use and care of all equipment, and that such equipment is maintained in good working condition.
To ensure strict confidentiality of information regarding patients/residents is adhered to.
Managerial Responsibilities: The CNM I will: Support the CNM 11 to provide the necessary supervision, co-ordination and deployment of nursing and support staff to ensure the optimum delivery of care in the designated area through allocating work fairly and competently.
Support the CNM11 with communication at ward and departmental level and facilitate team building Support staff leadership and motivation which is conducive to good working relations and work performance Assist the CNM 11 to manage all resources efficiently and effectively Support with change management Promote, facilitate and participate in the development of nursing policies and procedures.
Monitor as appropriate and lead on proactive improvement Contribute to the formulation, development and implementation of policies and procedures at area and hospital level Maintain all necessary clinical and administrative records and reporting arrangements Staff Development and Education To ensure that the care delivered to patients/clients is a result of individual assessment of care needs and to actively promote this within the ward team.
To ensure that the staff development and induction programme for trained and untrained staff is in place for the clinical area.
To ensure that each member of staff has a personal development plan that addresses the requirements of their present post and provides the opportunity for further development.
To facilitate in developing an environment conducive to promoting reflective practice Clinical and Professional Leadership Evidence Based Practice To participate and support in promoting evidence based nursing practice.
To participate in developing standards of care utilising research findings through the hospital wide approach.
To promote and improve the quality and standards of care through participating in the quality and patient safety programme.
Clinical Governance Participate in innovation and change in the approach to patient care delivery, and contribute to service planning process, based on best practice, particularly in relation to new research findings and advances in treatment.
Participate in the setting of professional standards.
Understand and co-operate with the need to measure and audit the effectiveness of care given in order to provide quality care.
Lead and maintain the principles of clinical governance including quality, risk and health & safety and be individually responsible for clinical governance, risk management and health & safety issues within their own work area.
Accurately record and report incidents, near misses and or verbal complaints to appropriate personnel according to Hospital Policy.
Participate in the development of policies, procedures and guidelines to support compliance with research best practice.
Accreditation Will familiarise themselves with policies, procedures and guidelines directly related to their clinical care and area.
Assist in the review of policies, procedures and guidelines under the direction of the chapter lead/department manager.

Personnel Follow uniform policy reference General Through the course of the working day or week there maybe a requirement to work in other areas of the hospital in line with patient requirements as requested by your line manager/deputy or nurse management.
Staff must produce satisfactory documentary evidence of all training and experience claimed by them, if required to do so by the organisation.

Such records and information are strictly confidential, unless acting on the instructions of an authorised officer, on no account must information concerning staff or patients be divulged or discussed except in the performance of normal duty.
In addition records must never be left in such a manner that unauthorised persons can obtain access to them and must be kept in safe custody when no longer required.
Qualifications & Experience: Be registered in the General Division of the live Register of Nurses kept by NMBI.
Have completed a Management Course or commit to undertake same.
Be a minimum of 3 years qualified and have previous experience within a Medical environment.
Previous management experience is desirable Display evidence of continuing professional development.
Demonstrate an awareness of HR policies and procedures Working knowledge of Microsoft packages is essential.
Will play an active role in the continuous improvement programme in the hospital using lean tools and methodology.
Possess excellent Communication skills.
Effective communication with medical staff, other members of the multi-disciplinary team, and with patients and relatives Implement change in accordance with new developments in nursing.
Work as an effective member of the multidisciplinary team promoting good teamwork and excellent patient care.
Possess well-developed leadership, interpersonal and organisational skills.
Ensure their professional and personal persona positively reflects the profession of nursing and Aut Even Hospital Time management skills.
Able to act quickly to address urgent matters.
