The group collaborates with vulnerable populations, small businesses, and multinational organisations to develop accessible and equitable security solutions.

Cyber Safety Working with vulnerable communities to empower a cyber-safe Ireland.
QCloud Driving advancements in quantum computing and cybersecurity research.
Cutting-Edge Cyber Range Providing state-of-the-art infrastructure for cyber-attack and defence simulations.
Cyber Skills Addressing Irelands critical cybersecurity skills shortage by equipping professionals with industry-relevant expertise.
Cyber Futures Running an annual Cyber Academy for Transition Year students, introducing them to the foundations of cybersecurity careers.
Through pioneering research, education, and industry collaboration, Cyber Explore is shaping the future of cybersecurity, ensuring a more secure digital landscape for all.
The Nimbus Research Centre, MTU, is Irelands leading research centre on the Internet of Things (IoT) and Cyber Physical Systems domain.
From energy and water optimisation and conservation to smart city infrastructure, and Industry 4.0, the Nimbus Research Centre, in collaboration with partners from all corners of the globe, plays a key role in harnessing and translating the research and industry opportunities presented by the recent rapid advances in IoT innovation.
In addition to cutting-edge national and international research activity, the Nimbus Research Centre operates as an Enterprise Ireland Technology Gateway.
The Nimbus Gateway transforms industry through innovation by working with start-ups, SMEs and multinational companies to deliver over 60 innovative smart projects annually, offering an ideal opportunity for researchers to develop their research from concept to market.
The Cyber Skills project is specifically designed to address the critical skill shortages in the cyber security sector.
Currently, there is a global shortage of cybersecurity professionals and Cyber Skills has been designed to enhance Irelands competitiveness in this context.
The goal of the Cyber Safety Team is to improve the cyber-safety of vulnerable members of society through the development of tailored and accessible security supports and guidance.
March 2025 Page 2 of 6 Ref: Our challenge is to ensure that minority groups are not more vulnerable to cyber-attacks because of a difference in ability.
Any engagement with technology requires appropriate cyber hygiene measures.
In the Creating Our Future report, mitigating the digital divide in society, and in particular for older people, was a core concern to citizens.
Our challenge is to provide vulnerable populations with the guidance to allow them to interact securely and confidently in our increasingly digital world.
This project is funded by the Research Ireland National Challenge Fund Grow phase (22/NCF/OT/11212G) and is supported by the National Cyber Security Centre.
Duties of the Post: The successful applicant will build the brand awareness of the Cyber Safety for Vulnerable Populations research team.
This will be achieved through public engagement, political advocacy, and private sector collaboration.
The goal is to develop sustainable support and funding to ensure the long-term viability of the project.
The role demands active participation in brand building, political engagement and lobbying, as well as business model development with core stakeholders.
The candidate will be expected to travel to stakeholders if necessary for potential and ongoing collaborations.
The appointee shall carry out the lawful instructions of the President (or authorised Officer) and comply with the requirements and regulations of the Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science.
Qualification Requirements and Selection Criteria for role: Key Skills and Experience requirement Knowledge of and experience in: Strategic public engagement and outreach activities to raise awareness of research initiatives.
Effective advocacy techniques, including political lobbying and policymaker engagement.
Building and managing partnerships with private sector organisations.
Creating and delivering compelling communication materials for diverse audiences.
Developing and implementing sustainable funding models or sponsorship agreements.
Collaborating in a multidisciplinary research environment.
Adaptability and willingness to acquire new skills and methods for brand building and stakeholder engagement.
Qualification Requirements for the Role Essential: A relevant PhD qualification or equivalent and significant relevant research experience (at least 6 years post PhD or equivalent research experience) Proven experience in advocacy, stakeholder management, and/or public relations roles.
Demonstrated ability to build brand awareness and develop strategic partnerships.
Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to confidently represent the research team in a variety of professional and public settings.
March 2025 Page 3 of 6 Ref: Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, with a focus on tailoring messages to technical and non-technical audiences.
Familiarity with digital tools and platforms for public engagement and brand promotion.
The capacity to work independently on research projects.
The ability to assess and evaluate concepts/theories to develop original solutions and particular knowledge of, and expertise in research methodologies.
Track record of high-quality peer reviewed publications or other recognised research and innovation impact metrics Experience in postgraduate and, ideally, Post-Doctoral supervision.
Strong project management experience.
Ability to provide leadership to small research teams.
Ability to secure independent external research funding.
Ability to contribute to broader organisational and management processes.
Desirable: A relevant degree or equivalent experience in public engagement, communications, political science, marketing, or a related discipline.
Knowledge of cybersecurity issues or an interest in gaining expertise in the area.
Experience working with vulnerable populations or on projects aimed at inclusivity and accessibility.
Skills in content creation, such as designing promotional materials, developing websites, or managing social media campaigns.
Proficiency in project management, including planning, budgeting, and reporting.
Experience in business development or fundraising, particularly in a research or non-profit context.
Experience in delivering presentations or training sessions to diverse groups.
Knowledge transfer and commercialisation experience is highly desirable.
The successful candidate will work with the Cyber Safety project team, respecting the competencies and capabilities of each team member, and will work within the team towards the overall goal of the project.
