St Patrick's Mental Health Services is seeking applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill a fixed term Psychiatric SHO/Registrars vacancy that we currently have available, for the remainder of the March 2025 – July 2025 rotation.

Successful applicants will: Have completed undergraduate medical trainingBe registered or be eligible for registration with the Irish Medical CouncilBe eligible to work in the Irish Health Service as a doctor from date of commencementHave previous experience working in the Irish Health Care SystemIdeally have previous experience in Psychiatry, as well as additional relevant qualifications
In the event of appointment, the successful candidate will join an existing Consultant led team.
Excellent training, support and exposure to a varied caseload will be provided.
Any appointee may be required to work at St Patrick's University Hospital but may also be required to work at the premises of any of the facilities administered by St Patrick's Mental Health Services.
This includes St Patrick's Hospital Lucan and the Dean Clinics.

The role Registrar in Adult Psychiatry 1.0WTE Full Time, Fixed Term Contract
The main purpose of this position is to provide a service as a Psychiatric Registrar as agreed with the Medical Director.

The Psychiatric Registrar will report to the Medical Director or designate, including supervising Consultant Psychiatrist.

The standard working week applying to the post is 39 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

Location
This position is located at St Patrick's Hospital, James's Street, Dublin 8, incorporating St Patricks Hospital Lucan and all SPMHS Dean Clinics.

ResponsibilitiesAdmitting or becoming familiar with admissions details and previous clinical information of all service users under your care.Implementing a treatment plan in conjunction with your consultant and MDT members.
Detailed documentation of this.Conducting investigations and taking initiative to monitor treatments (such as Lithium) commenced in hospital.Ensuring accurate and clear prescribing of treatments for in- and out-patients.Compilation of detailed and clear entries to admission documentation and continuous service user records.Initiating referrals to and liaising with other MDT members and programme co-ordinators.Collaborating with nursing staff regarding service user progress and implementation of the detail of the treatment plan.Obtaining collateral history from family and significant others.Monitoring progress of service users on leave and communicating rationale and details of treatment plan including discharge arrangements.Attending to all on-call commitments and making timely and clearly communicated swaps where necessary.Communicating with outpatients and participating in pre-arranged outpatient clinics.Preparation of discharge summaries – both initial and more detailed – and prompt imparting of this information to GP's or primary referrers.Participating in all educational activities, particularly the Friday teaching programme (Lunch provided).Early arrangement and co-ordination of holiday and study leave in conjunction with own team members and between cross covering teams.Participating in Admissions rota and conducting timely and clearly communicated swaps where necessary.Participation in case conferences, presenting cases according to the weekly academic meeting timetable.This Job Description is not intended to be a comprehensive list of all duties.

Annual Leave The annual leave associated with the position is 32 calendar days, pro rata.

Pension: Registrars have the option of setting up a PRSA.

Probation: The appointee will be appointed in a probationary capacity for the first six months during which time the job holder's performance will be subject to ongoing review.

Any extension to or suspension of the period of probation will be in line with the European Union (Transparent and Predictable Working Conditions) 2022.

Health: The appointee must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the position and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.

Character: The appointee must be of good character.

Retirement Age: Normal retirement age for employees is 66 years which at present is also normal pension age.
