Vela Games is looking for an experienced Infrastructure & Backend Engineer to join our development team to help build our new multiplayer roguelite game: Evercore Heroes Ascension.
This role focuses on both cloud infrastructure and backend development.
The ideal candidate will combine strong infrastructure-as-code practices with robust backend development skills, particularly in AWS cloud services and Golang development. At Vela, we love games of every type, but we know that multiplayer, when done well, has a special ability to bring people together.

We're looking for someone who wants to be part of the core foundation of Vela Games; someone who is passionate about being part of a tight-knit team laser-focused on creating a game from the ground up.
This person is a technical expert, who will not only help us implement code but who will also have opportunities to contribute to design and architect our core (backend) systems.
This person loves playing games as much as making games and appreciates the nuances of building software from a player perspective.

What You Will Do InfrastructureMaintain and evolve existing cloud infrastructure defined in TerraformManage and optimize Kubernetes clusters (EKS) and CI/CD pipelinesConfigure and maintain GitOps workflows using ArgoCDImplement and maintain monitoring, logging, and alerting solutionsEnsure security best practices across cloud infrastructureOptimize cloud costs and resource utilizationBackend DevelopmentDesign and develop scalable microservices using GolangImplement and maintain backend APIs and servicesOptimize application performance and reliabilityWrite clean, maintainable, and well-tested codeCollaborate on database design and data modelingParticipate in code reviews and technical documentationWork closely with other engineers to ensure system reliability and scalabilityRequirements Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent experience3+ years of experience in infrastructure engineering and backend developmentStrong experience with AWS services and cloud architectureProven experience with Infrastructure as Code using TerraformExperience with Kubernetes (EKS) and container orchestrationProficiency in Golang developmentExperience with GitOps practices and ArgoCDStrong understanding of CI/CD principles and practicesExperience with monitoring and observability toolsExcellent problem-solving and debugging skillsBonus Points 5+ years of experience in similar rolesKnowledge of security best practices and compliance requirementsExperience with database systems (both SQL and NoSQL)Understanding of network architecture and protocolsExperience with distributed systemsPrevious professional game development experienceAt Vela Games, we are committed to creating a workplace where everyone feels safe, respected & valued.
