Ancestry is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Privacy Counsel to join our International Privacy Legal team on a fixed-term basis for maternity cover.
You will be responsible for advising Ancestry's business on all aspects of privacy law in a vibrant, fast-paced environment.
You will need to have experience applying complex and evolving privacy legal frameworks to new and innovative products and services.
You will focus on providing privacy legal advice and acting as a trusted partner to internal commercial, security, marketing and other business teams in order to identify and mitigate legal risk, and to develop privacy governance frameworks across the business.
To be successful you must have proven experience advising on privacy compliance issues, a strong work ethic, and a keen interest in learning about new technologies such as artificial intelligence.
We offer flexible and remote working; however, you must reside in Ireland or the UK.
What you will do Perform privacy impact and legitimate interest assessments on processing activities engaged in by the business Advise on and negotiate the privacy aspects of commercial contracts Work with Product Counsel to review new products and features for compliance with privacy laws, and develop commercial solutions Assist in the continued development and improvement of all aspects of Ancestry's privacy compliance programme Work cross-functionally with Ancestry's Legal, Security, Procurement, People & Places, Marketing and other teams to ensure business-wide privacy compliance Contribute to and provide data protection training and awareness programs Who you are You are A qualified EU or UK lawyer with 5+ years of relevant post-qualification privacy legal experience (at a law firm or as in-house counsel) You have In-depth knowledge of international privacy laws, in particular the GDPR You're an excellent multi-tasker, with strong organisational and communications skills You have Strong contract drafting skills and attention to detail.
You will monitor developments in data protection, information security and AI / ML (i.e., new laws, regulations, important judgements, regulatory guidance, etc.)
Desirable but not essential   Familiarity with AI/ML and AI legislation, such as the EU AI Act; A track record of developing strong relationships across a diverse range of stakeholders; Experience supporting security incident situations, notifications and communications with regulators and data subjects At least one IAPP certification This is a full time, fixed-term role with full benefits, including 25 days paid time off, completion bonus, remote working, pension, health and dental insurance.
We have offices in both Dublin and London, but our working location policy is fully flexible.
