Clinical Supervisor (Restorative Dentistry and Periodontology)
Permanent & Part-Time (2.5 days/week, year-round)
The Dublin Dental University Hospital (DDUH) invites applications for the permanent, part-time post of Clinical Supervisor within the Division of Restorative Dentistry and Periodontology.
The successful candidate will contribute to the delivery and leadership of high-quality clinical and pre-clinical teaching across the undergraduate dental programme, playing an essential role in the ongoing development and implementation of teaching within the discipline.
Session details: 2.5 days per week (x5 sessions), year-round

All clinical sessions are based on 35 hours per week or 3.5 hours per session, permanent/part-time.
Reporting line is into the Head of Division up to the Clinical Director and Dean, School of Dental Affairs.
Role Summary:
The successful candidates will be responsible for:
Course Leadership: Lead the teaching of Occlusion and Function within the undergraduate curriculum, including planning, delivery, evaluation, and continuous improvement of course content in line with best pedagogical practices and current evidence as directed by the Head of Division.
Clinical Teaching: Supervise students during clinical sessions, with a focus on the development of core competencies in diagnosis, treatment planning, and delivery of care.
Uphold the highest standards of patient safety and professional conduct, ensuring students understand and adhere to these expectations.
Governance & Incident Reporting: Demonstrate familiarity with DDUH policies and procedures.
Report clinical incidents promptly using QPulse, and contribute to a culture of quality improvement and reflective practice.
Ensuring that teaching and learning are fully integrated into the clinical experience from the student's perspective.
Curriculum Integration: Facilitate a cohesive learning environment where clinical experiences are explicitly linked to pre-clinical knowledge and skills, ensuring students understand the clinical relevance of theoretical teaching.
Student Support & Feedback: Provide students with regular, constructive, and timely feedback.
Identify students in difficulty and liaise with relevant staff to ensure appropriate academic or pastoral support is in place.
Assessment & Evaluation: Participate in the assessment of clinical competence.
Accurately award clinical credits and complete sessional evaluations in line with DDUH policies and procedures.
Student Progression: Attend student review and progress meetings.
Provide timely, evidence-based reports on student performance and raise any concerns with the relevant academic or clinical leads.
Curriculum Familiarity & Digital Competence: Maintain a thorough understanding of the undergraduate curriculum and associated IT systems, including electronic clinical grading platforms and e portfolio.
Professional Development & Mandatory Training: Stay informed of updates to national policies, including the HSE's Children First guidelines.
Complete all required training through HSEland or other mandated platforms, as directed by the Head of Division.
Other teaching, assessment, and administrative duties as required to support the needs of the Division, at the discretion of the Head of Division.
Essential criteria
Each candidate must:

e a qualified Dentist.
Be registered with the Dental Council of Ireland.
Have a minimum of three years' experience post qualification.
In accordance with HSE Circular 012/2009 'Implementation of Recommendation of Report on the Prevention of Transmission of Blood borne diseases in the health care setting', candidates must furnish the Dublin Dental University Hospital with: 1) Evidence of their Hepatitis B Titre Levels, 2) Evidence to state that they are
Hepatitis B Negative
, 3) Evidence to state that they are
Hepatitis C negative
.
These three pieces of documentation must all be dated within 6 months of your start date in the Hospital.
Be free from any defect or disease, which would render him/her unsuitable to hold office and be in a state of health as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.
Be of good character.
Desirable Criteria:
A postgraduate qualification relevant to restorative dentistry or dental education (e.g. PGcert, MSc, PhD, DChDent, or equivalent).
Significant experience in both clinical and didactic teaching of undergraduate Dental Science, Dental Hygiene, and Dental Nursing students in a university setting.
Demonstrated leadership in curriculum design, delivery, and assessment at undergraduate level.
A proven track record of leading undergraduate teaching modules.
