Oncology Quality Manager
Location:
Limerick Cancer CentreJob type: Permanent Overview of role: The Limerick Cancer Centre is hiring an Oncology Quality Manager on a permanent, full time contract. The Oncology Quality Manager is responsible for the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the Quality Management Programme within the oncology service. The role ensures compliance with national regulations, international standards (e.g. JCI), and best practice guidelines, supporting safe, effective, and patient-centred care. The Quality Manager will work closely with the wider UPMC Quality function, clinical and support teams and Senior leadership team. Primary Duties and
Responsibilities:
1. Quality Management
• Develop, implement, and maintain the Oncology Quality Management programme in line with national and international standards.
• Ensure policies, procedures, and protocols are current, compliant, and accessible.
• Ensure the integrity of document control processes, including version control, review cycles, and approvals. 2. Regulatory Compliance & Accreditation
• Ensure compliance with:
• JCI Accreditation Standards
• National Cancer Control Programme (NCCP) requirements
• Radiation protection regulations (EPA/HIQA as applicable)
• Lead preparation for external inspections, audits, and accreditation surveys.
• Coordinate responses to audit findings and regulatory requirements. 3. Risk Management
• Oversee the departments Risk Management Framework, including risk identification, assessment, mitigation and monitoring
• Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) and ensure implementation of corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
• Maintain the department risk register.
• Promote a culture of safety, transparency, and continuous learning 4. Audit & Quality Improvement
• Develop and deliver an annual audit programme.
• Facilitate clinical audits in line with radiotherapy and oncology standards.
• Monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and quality metrics.
• Lead and support quality improvement initiatives across the service. 5. Patient Safety & Experience
• Ensure patient pathways are aligned with safety and quality standards.
• Monitor patient feedback, complaints, and compliments.
• Implement quality improvements based on patient experience data.
• Support compliance with safeguarding, patient rights and safe-care standards. 6. Training & Education
• Provide training to staff on quality systems, accreditation standards, and regulatory compliance.
• Support staff in understanding incident reporting, audit processes, and quality improvement methodologies.
• Promote awareness of safety culture and continuous improvement. 7. Multidisciplinary Collaboration
• Work collaboratively with Radiation Oncologists, Physicists, Radiation Therapists (RTTs), Nursing, Administration teams and the wider UPMC Quality Function.
• Participate in governance, risk, and multidisciplinary meetings.
• Support integration of quality practices across all Oncology workflows. 8. Data Management & Reporting
• Analyse and report on quality and safety data.
• Produce regular reports for senior management, governance committees, and external bodies.
• Support data-driven decision-making within the department. Qualifications &
Experience:
Skills essential to the post:
• Strong knowledge of Oncology workflows and clinical processes
• Expertise in quality management systems and accreditation standards (e.g. JCI)
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
• High attention to detail and organisational skills
• Ability to lead change and drive continuous improvement Qualifications Essential
• Degree in a healthcare-related discipline (Radiotherapy, Nursing, Physics, or equivalent) Desirable
• Qualification in Quality Management / Patient Safety
• Lean, Six Sigma, or quality improvement certification Experience
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in a radiotherapy or oncology setting Job Specific Competencies and Knowledge: Essential
• Experience in quality management, clinical audit, or governance
• Knowledge of regulatory and accreditation standards
• Excellent IT
skills:
MS Office skills to include MS Teams, Word, Excel and PowerPoint Desirable
• Experience with JCI accreditation processes
• Experience managing audits and inspections Additional Responsibilities
• Participate in service development initiatives
• Support implementation of new clinical pathways and workflows
• Contribute to strategic planning and service expansion
Salary:
€70,000
