The Neurology department in TUH is an expanding, innovative unit where trainees will have the opportunity to be exposed to a wide range of neurological presentations, acute and chronic, and an approach to their management. The Unit operates a large, comprehensive General Neurology service, and several subspecialty clinics, as well as participation in the acute stroke rota, jointly coordinating a daily Rapid Access Stroke Prevention service, and providing a once-weekly liaison service to Naas General Hospital. The Unit has a highly-skilled multidisciplinary team of Health and Social Care Professionals and Clinical Nurse Specialists with expertise in various neurological conditions.

Training opportunities include:

Consultant-led inpatient ward rounds 2 x weekly
Consultant-led consult rounds (TUH 2-3 x weekly; NGH weekly)

General Neurology Clinics
Specialist Neurology Clinics: Neurovascular Clinic, including a daily Rapid Access Stroke Prevention service; Peripheral Neuropathy; Neuromuscular; Movement Disorders; Cognitive/Neurodegenerative; MS/Neuroinflammatory; Headache; National Ataxia Clinic.

Audit/ Service Improvement/ Academic Opportunities

Trainees will have the opportunity to participate in at least one audit during a training year. We encourage all staff to discuss potential Quality Improvement initiatives with Consultants. Trainees are also encouraged to present cases/research at least once at a national (or international) meeting. The Unit has a strong academic/publication profile, and all trainees are invited to participate in departmental research projects.

NCHDs who participate in Crash Calls include those working in Adult and Paediatric Medicine, Adult and Paediatric Emergency Medicine, and Anaesthesia. It is not permitted for you to be a member of the Crash Call team without a current certificate. Salary scales are as per the HSE Salary Scales.
