PURPOSE OF THE JOB
To ensure that the highest standards of Environmental Health and Safety are maintained throughout the plant in an ever-changing business environment.
To foster a culture of continuous improvement while also ensuring that A.I.D.D. complies with all statutory Employment and Safety legislation, ADD policies, Abbott Ireland H.R. and EHS Policies
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide direction and support to the plant in meeting the requirements of the Abbott Global EHS Management and Technical Standards, applicable ISO standards and other external regulations.
Support and continuously evaluate systems within the plant to ensure compliance with, Local, National & EU legislation and Abbott Corporate and Division Procedures, Standards and Policies for safety and the environment.
Support, maintain & where necessary develop an effective EHS management system.
Issue formal updates to the EHS Manager on a monthly basis.
Review & update annually, or more frequently if required, EHSMS documents, including EHS Procedures, Register of legislation, Safety Statement, Risk Assessment.
Report EHS metrics to the EHS Manager on a weekly basis.
Conduct training / awareness session related to the EHS System.
Educate and engage employees in efforts to optimise AIDD’s EHS performance.
Support / Conduct Risk assessments throughout the plant and oversee and monitor training on risk assessments.
Conduct EHS Assessment of all new chemicals and processes and ensure all items arising effectively addressed.
Conduct EHS capital expenditure checklist and ensure all items arising effectively addressed.
Actively take part and assist in the coordination of EHS awareness activities, including: notice boards, meetings, Group meetings, events etc.
Support a system that ensures all accidents and hazardous occurrences / Near Misses are recorded and investigated with preventative measures put in place.
Take a leading role in working with internal EHS committee meetings and ensure that areas for improvement or any EHS concerns are highlighted and acted on.
Oversee internal EHS audits and ensure all issues are effectively closed out.
Pro-actively encourage improvements to any aspects of EHS throughout the plant.
Ensure implementation of the waste management strategy, continually striving to reduce AIDD’s impact on the environment.
Ensure adherence and implementation of Abbott waste contractor audit programme.
Support and continuously monitor the Site Emergency Response Plan to ensure it meets the requirements of changing processes.
Support the Emergency Response Team during an EHS emergency.
EDUCATION AND COMPETENCIES REQUIRED
Third-level qualification in Environmental Science / Occupational Safety & Health / or related discipline is a necessary requirement for this position, as ability to understand scientific process and implement EHS systems is a fundamental prerequisite in this role.
At least one year’s general science experience. This will provide the foundation for the disciplines, techniques, trouble shooting skills and basic scientific knowledge required for the position.
Advantageous but not essential, exposure to EHS issues in previous position.
