This student placement role is laboratory-based role in the Thermo Fisher Scientific Cork, Ireland site. The Cork site is an Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) manufacturing facility operating as a contract development and manufacturing organisation (CDMO). We currently supply API for medicines, to a range of customers world-wide. On site we have Research and Development facilities, dedicated to introducing new products and optimising our established portfolio. We take the chemistry process, refine it and scale it, so it is reproducible. We have state-of-the-art chemistry laboratories and a ‘scale-up’ lab to support rapid scale-up from laboratory to small batches for early research and then we scale to large batches for clinical trial supply. The student placement role will work alongside the Development Chemist and provide chemistry expertise and technical support for the chemical development of processes in the laboratory, kilo laboratory, pilot plant and manufacturing plants. • Provide technical & laboratory support for the introduction of new products to the Cork site right from route development, through scale up and implementation on plant scale. • Support development projects in the laboratory, including route development, proof of concept and process robustness studies. • Undertake the synthesis of compounds with support of chemist. • Contribute to team ways of working. • Communicate regularly with other members of team. • General support of laboratory – storage of chemicals, updating chemical database, participating in risk assessments, shipping samples etc. • Work with due care and attention, perform all duties in a compliant manner whilst acting always in accordance with the Dignity at Work Policy, Code of Business Conduct and Ethics and our values of Integrity, Intensity, Innovation and Involvement. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: • Knowledge and interest in synthetic organic chemistry. • Ability to think critically and innovatively combined with willingness to challenge. • Embrace and participate in PPI (Practical Process Improvement) initiatives to identify improvements and cost saving to the business. • Supporting Technical development chemist. • Good technical writing skills and oral communication are required
