Environmental Geoscientist / Hydrogeologist

RPS is seeking applications for the position of  Environmental   Geoscientist / Hydrogeologist  to join our  Sustainability Team  in Ireland (ROI). Our Sustainability Team work on projects across a wide range of sectors including renewable energy, circular economy, public infrastructure, manufacturing, and commercial development. We provide our clients with high quality and commercially focused solutions to address environmental challenges. Projects range from delivery of environmental monitoring programmes, geo-environmental site investigations and risk assessments, contaminated land remediation, and specialist support to EPA licenced facilities. RPS specialise in all areas of the built and natural environment, shaping the future of our environmental, social and economic landscapes. By joining RPS you will be part of a leading global multi-disciplinary consultancy. This is a primarily based in Dublin, with offices also available in Cork, Galway, Kilkenny and Sligo.

About The Team:

About The Role:

You’ll be working on a wide range of projects enabling you to develop your understanding of geo-environmental assessment methods, including the wider policy and legislative frameworks at both a Local and National level. You’ll have the opportunity to gain knowledge and experience from working with senior colleagues across RPS business units (., Water, Transport, Geotechnical). You will provide support to the team by conducting data assessment and evaluation, desk-based technical report writing and research, developing conceptual site models, conducting site visits and appraisals, and assisting with management of project tasks. You’ll be responsible for design and supervision of geo-environmental investigations including liaison with sub-contractors and clients, conducting environmental monitoring and site walkover assessments, preparing Construction and Environmental Management Plans, and assisting with preparation of Environmental Impact Assessments.

About You:

Highly motivated with interest and ambition to further develop expertise in the geo-environmental sector. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in the English language. Additional language skills a plus. Demonstrate an ability to effectively manage your time and identify project priorities. Be flexible and have a willingness to travel on occasion to client sites for supervision of ground investigations, site walkovers etc. Current member of a professional body (., IGI, IAH) working toward chartered status. Ability to work closely as part of a collaborative multidisciplinary team, with strong social and interpersonal skills. High degree of proficiency using MS Office suite, with additional skills in relevant software and modelling tools preferred, ., ArcMap, QGIS, HoleBASE, MODFLOW, AutoCAD. A good understanding of Health, Safety and Environmental management with a current SOLAS SafePass and First Aid qualification. Have a full clean driving licence.

Key Skills / Qualifications:

We’d like you to have at least 3 years professional experience in a geo-environmental role, for example applying contaminated land risk assessment methods and communicating environmental liability within a consultancy context. You’ll be confident providing oversight of ground investigations, have a good knowledge of preliminary environmental risk assessments, and demonstrable experience delivering technical outputs to a high standard (., reports, drawings, project plans). You have been involved in contaminated land assessments including design/implementation of remedial technologies. You take a proactive role towards project health and safety, and in an Irish context have an understanding of the PSCS/PSDP roles. Great communication skills are key in order to build, maintain and consolidate strong working relationships with colleagues, clients and external stakeholders.

You’ll have a Bachelor’s Degree (BA/BSc/BE) or equivalent in Earth Science / Environmental Science / Geology / Environmental Engineering, potentially with a Master’s Degree (MSc/ME) in a relevant discipline.
