WP Engine is seeking a Lead Payroll Specialist to lead all payroll processes for our International operations. By working closely with the greater Employee Experience and Accounting teams, you'll have the ability to make a lasting impact for our growing organisation.

As a Lead Payroll Specialist, you will work as part of our Employee Experience team and process payroll for our International operations, including Ireland, UK, Australia, Poland and Bulgaria. In this role you will work closely with the Sr. Manager, People Operations to streamline our payroll processes to help us scale with the growth of the business. You will also have the opportunity to partner closely with other teams within the business such as our Accounting, Finance, Talent Acquisition and Total Rewards teams. You will have the chance to create a lasting impact in driving value for our employees through your customer service mindset. 


The day to day

Review and ensure accuracy of payroll information, including new hires, terminations, benefit changes, garnishments, pension contributions, and employee data changes.

Ensure payroll is accurate and processed on a timely basis.

Coordinate processing of payroll with third-party payroll providers.

Drive improvements to the global payroll strategy with a focus on improving and creating new, sustainable processes and procedures. 

Support system implementations and upgrades to enhance our HRIS/Payroll systems (e.g. Workday, Global Benefits, Time-keeping, Cloudpay etc.)

Support implementation of payroll processes for new countries as well as integrations resulting from M&A activity. 

Reconcile salary, payroll taxes, and other deductions from payroll reports to general ledger and prepare and post payroll journal entries after each payroll run.

Prepare payroll related reconciliations for audit purposes.

Research and respond to inquiries from employees, vendors, and taxing agencies on payroll related matters.

Maintain the international payroll calendar and communicate to internal partners.

Cross train on US Payroll and other key business processes. 

Manage relationships with external payroll vendors. 

Build strong partnerships with internal business partners to provide employees with an exceptional payroll experience. 

Maintain a high level of confidentiality.

Perform ad hoc accounting projects and payroll reports on an as-needed basis.

Your skills and expertise

5 years of international payroll processing experience with 3 years of hands-on Workday experience required.

U.S. payroll experience is a plus. 

Working knowledge of local regulations and laws related to payroll (e.g., hours and taxation) in applicable international jurisdictions.

Working knowledge of payroll’s general ledger impact.

Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, passionate about providing excellent service and support to employees at all levels.

Ability to analyze and resolve complex payroll questions.

Ability to remain flexible in a rapidly changing environment.

Enjoy a fast paced deadline oriented atmosphere.

Ability to work independently and take ownership of multiple concurrent and diversified tasks, while working within deadlines.

Sense of urgency and strong attention to detail.

High proficiency in Microsoft Excel.

Preferred Skills:

NetSuite and Cloudpay experience is a plus.

BA/BS in Accounting or related field.

Knowledge and understanding of international laws and regulations related to payroll, particularly the UK, Ireland, Australia, Poland & Bulgaria

Experience working in the software or services industry.
