The Organisation

Highfield Healthcare, which incorporates Highfield Hospital and Hampstead Clinic Services, the “Approved Centre” registered by the Mental Health Commission and Nursing Home Services including Elmhurst Nursing Home and the Alzheimer Care Centre registered by HIQA.

Working Hours

Monday through Friday, 9am to 5pm. Out of hours work may be required from time to time for ongoing IT systems maintenance (e.g. Server Upgrade).

Reporting Relationship

The post holder is accountable to the Head of IT.

Purpose of the Post

Under the supervision of the Head of IT, the Systems Administrator is responsible for the maintenance and development of all network infrastructure and applications and providing second level support to users of Highfield Healthcare IT systems and infrastructure.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, maintain and provide support for all network & telecommunications infrastructure.
  • Monitor and ensure the stable operation and efficient performance of the HFH network, hardware and systems.
  • Complete daily, monthly, annual checklists to ensure all systems are functioning correctly and efficiently.
  • Carry out any preventative maintenance or housekeeping on existing systems & infrastructure and develop, plan, manage and implement system improvements and modifications.
  • Management and maintenance of Backups and Disaster Recovery systems.
  • Prepare and maintain network documentation and cabling layouts.
  • Maintain an inventory of IT property and assets.
  • Maintain consistency of Microsoft Active Directory Environment.
  • Enforce security policy and software distribution by means of Active Directory Group Policy.
  • Create and maintain VPN access for authorised staff members.
  • Business analysis and evaluating new business needs and requirements while also ensuring existing systems are used to full potential and effectiveness, liaising where necessary with system and business owners as well as any other relevant departments.
  • Proactively identifying process improvements and implementing solutions using standard project management principles.
  • Patch management deploying Microsoft critical & security patches.
  • Compiling policy documentation for IT department and SOP documentation.
  • Maintain and enforce IT policies/procedures in line with GDPR.
  • Draft and finalise detailed weekly/monthly status and monitoring reports.
  • Through education, information and coaching, supporting users on how best to use IT resources.
  • Providing day to day support across channels including email, phone and portal whilst also participating in any new development projects.
  • Supervision of first level Desktop Support Engineer workload & priorities.
  • Keeping self-up to date with latest developments of operating systems and application software.
  • Escalate matters of urgency and importance to the Head of IT as appropriate.
  • Provide emergency 24 x 7 on-call support on a rotating basis.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Associate or Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, System Administration, or a closely related field, or equivalent experience required.
  • 2-3 years database, network or system administration experience required.
  • 1-2 years experience in a similar Hospital/Healthcare environment beneficial.
  • Experience administrating Windows Server instances in highly-available environments.
  • Experience with Microsoft Windows Desktop/Server, IOS and HyperV.
  • Experience implementing & supporting enterprise LAN/WAN networks.
  • Experience with Office 365.
  • Excellent knowledge of Active Directory, Group Policy, DHCP, DNS, TCP/IP, routing, load-balancing, SMTP.
  • Previous service desk and desktop support experience required.
  • Resourcefulness is a necessary skill in this role.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to understand business processes.
  • Self-confidence and interpersonal skills.
  • Good communication (both verbal and written) and listening skills.
  • Proven effective planning and organising skills.
  • Customer focused and able to operate with minimal supervision.
  • Able to manage time effectively, prioritise & co-ordinate work appropriately.

The post holder will be appraised during the first 6 months of employment and annually thereafter.

Such records are confidential, and under no circumstances should such information be disclosed. In addition, records should be kept in safe custody, to prevent unauthorised access.

The post holder will be required to demonstrate professionalism at all times through their work, conduct, appearance and in compliance with all the hospital policies and procedures.

The post holder will satisfy the occupational health requirements of the post and thereafter demonstrate their capability through satisfactory attendance. Each post holder must be of good character and satisfy the Garda Clearance requirements. The post holder also has a duty of care to be responsible for job specific safety and to comply with all health and safety requirements within Highfield Healthcare.
