Role Overview:

  • This is a hands-on role suited to an individual who thrives in on-site interactions and has the ability to engage and influence at all organizational levels.
  • The Health and Safety Officer will be a motivated professional committed to fostering a proactive safety culture. In this role, you will provide competent advice, guidance, and support to the site team with authority and independence, enabling them to comply with health and safety legislation and best practices.

Main Duties:

  • Site Inspections: Conduct regular inspections to identify potential hazards and recommend corrective measures to mitigate risks and enhance safety.
  • Auditing: Perform regular audits of control systems and site processes to verify compliance and ensure consistent maintenance.
  • Safety Improvement Plan (SIP): Conduct monthly reviews of the SIP and support the General Manager in maintaining the plan. Assist the General Manager in closing out open and in-progress SIP actions.
  • Incident Management: Report and investigate accidents and incidents. Prepare comprehensive reports detailing root causes and implement corrective actions.
  • Documentation: Review, revise, develop, and maintain risk assessments and Safe Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Training: Identify training needs, arrange, and deliver health and safety training sessions.
  • Communication: Share health and safety updates, initiatives, and information with employees and other stakeholders.
  • Compliance: Arrange statutory examinations of plant and equipment, occupational exposure monitoring, and health surveillance programs as required.
  • Systems Development: Develop, implement, and maintain a permit-to-work system, a contractor control process, and emergency preparedness and response plans, including evacuation procedures and first-aid arrangements.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • A recognized qualification in Health and Safety.
  • "Train the Trainer" qualification (desirable but not essential).
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in a fast-paced environment such as FMCG, manufacturing, heavy engineering, or construction in a similar role.
  • Proven ability to influence stakeholders on Health and Safety matters.
  • Strong understanding of the legislative framework for Health and Safety and its practical application.
  • Expertise in safety management systems and incident investigation techniques.
  • Detail-oriented with an analytical approach to health and safety management.
