Job Description:

Toast is driven by building the restaurant platform that helps restaurants adapt, take control, and get back to what they do best: building the businesses they love.

As we continue to grow, we are looking for a Technical Product Manager to join our Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) team. This role is pivotal in ensuring our platform's reliability, performance, and observability, directly contributing to our product's success and our customers' satisfaction.

As a Technical Product Manager focused on SRE and observability, you will be responsible for defining and driving the vision, strategy, and execution of infrastructure and operational capabilities as well as ensuring observability for our developers and platform team and stakeholders. You will work closely with engineering, product, and support teams to enhance our platform's reliability, scalability, and observability. Your role will ensure that our SaaS platform not only meets current operational demands but is also strategically prepared for future growth and challenges.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive product strategy for SRE, operational readiness, and observability.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to prioritize and roadmap infrastructure improvements, ensuring alignment with overall product and business goals.
  • Define and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) related to system reliability, performance, and operational efficiency.
  • Lead cross-functional initiatives to improve system observability, including logging, monitoring, and alerting systems.
  • Work with the SRE team to develop and refine incident management and response processes.
  • Advocate for SRE principles and practices across the organization, fostering a culture of operational excellence.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends and best practices in SRE and observability to inform strategy and tactics.
  • Ensure product development teams have the right feedback loops on quality and resilience.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field. Master’s degree is a plus.
  • 5+ years of experience in product management, SRE, or a related technical role within a SaaS environment.
  • Strong understanding of cloud infrastructure, distributed systems, and software development practices.
  • Experience with observability tools and practices, including monitoring, logging, and alerting systems.
  • Proven ability to work cross-functionally with engineering, design, and customer-facing teams.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to influence without authority.
  • Analytical and problem-solving mindset, with a data-driven approach to decision-making.
  • Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies and the ability to adapt in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
