Information Management Specialist (P2P CMU)

Danish Refugee Council, one of the world’s leading humanitarian NGOs, is currently looking for a highly qualified Information Management Specialist.

About the job

This position is part of the consortium management structure for the whole of route migration project “Pathways to Protection” (P2P). The project is managed by a consortium between three partners, Danish Refugee Council, Danish Red Cross and The International Detention Coalition.

The International Detention Coalition (IDC) is a network of organizations based in 75+ countries advocating for people impacted by immigration detention, promoting alternatives through research, advocacy, and strategic partnerships with governments and civil society.

Under the supervision of the Chief of Party, the position will ensure leading on data checks, cleaning, validation, storage and supporting analysis of the data. He/She will also serve as a key expert on quantitative data management and visualization, developing tracking and survey tools towards qualitative program analysis. Contributing to better use of data, the post holder will also provide support on data collection and management trainings, support with monitor network supervision, support the team with administrative tasks, among other responsibilities. In the event of recruitment of additional information management staff, he/she will have technical line supervision responsibilities for Information Management Officer/Assistant positions.

The post holder plays a key role within the team in ensuring high quality standards for the data collected daily. Your main duties and responsibilities will be:

Information Management and Data Processing

  • Lead on the management of data: ensure maintenance of the data collection platform, and that data is safely stored and shared, well organized and retrievable, that data protection guidelines are met, and that quality is assured.
  • Migrate collected data into data sets in appropriate formats (such as .dta or .csv or .nvp).
  • Ensure the regular availability of clean datasets for the region and for global use: export data in appropriate formats, and lead to the validation and cleaning of data.
  • Identify and implement changes to surveys at country level and make suggestions to update surveys at global level as needed according to trends identified in data cleaning and validation.
  • Lead IM and data processing in compliance with internal procedures.
  • As a focal point for information management network develop information management tools, and to improve information management and data processing standards (such as data management SOPs).
  • Serve as primary focal point for data management for the CMU/DANIDA/P2P by compiling quantitative data from relevant secondary sources.

Survey Design

  • Contribute to the development of new surveys and/or modules according to the CMU’s needs.

Data Collection

  • Ensure the maintenance of the electronic data collection solution.
  • Prepare and conduct training for field staff on the questionnaire and the data collection software.
  • Conduct field missions to deploy new surveys and/or modules, observe enumerators and provide technical feedback and support as needed, including identifying the need for retraining/additional training.

Data Analysis and Creation of Knowledge Products

  • Respond to and coordinate quantitative data information and analysis requests from the Consortium.
  • Support with the visualization of data, including GIS data, using relevant software such as QGIS, Adobe Illustrator, Excel, Affinity.
  • Contribute to the quantitative analysis of data using relevant software applications such as Excel, STATA, R and/or Python in support of the Research agenda.
  • Conduct quantitative analysis to create both visual and written material (including maps) for use in presentations.
  • Develop dashboards presenting data for internal and external use at Country level.
  • Lead on the drafting of quantitative analytical products.
  • Stay up to date on the latest mixed migration research from the WANA region and along the Eastern, Western, and Central Mediterranean Routes.

Team Support

  • Develop and adapt tools for tracking data quality, survey targets, enumerator feedback, and other data points to support effective information management.
  • As needed and as possible, provide training to team on information management skills and tools, such as the PowerBi application used for dashboards.
  • Assist the team with administrative or any other tasks related to information management.

About You

To be successful in this role we expect you to have at least three years of experience working in quantitative research. Moreover, we also expect the following:

Required

  • Demonstrated experience in data management, cleaning, validation, storage.
  • Demonstrated experience with electronic data collection procedures and solutions (ODK, Kobo, Qualtrics, ONA, SurveyCTO…).
  • Degree in statistics, economics, data analysis, or any relevant computer science degree.
  • Demonstrated experience in training in data collection teams.
  • Demonstrated experience contributing to the development of survey and administrative tools.
  • Demonstrated experience drafting analysis based on quantitative data.
  • Previous experience working with international NGOs.
  • Experience in GIS theory and GIS software (including QGIS, ArcGIS, CARTODB…) is an asset.
  • Experience in quantitative analysis highly desired including the use of relevant software applications (Excel, STATA, SPSS, R, Python…) is highly desirable.
  • Experience in data visualization applications such as PowerBi is desirable.
  • Demonstrated understanding of current mixed migration debates and dynamics in the region is an asset.
  • Strong verbal and written communication aptitude.
  • Strong attention to details and rigor in dealing with quantitative data.
  • Full professional proficiency in English and French.
  • Arabic is an asset.
