Job Description

In this role, you will establish and lead a high-performing Grid Delivery team, responsible for the safe and high-quality construction of grid connection assets for Elgin’s solar + storage project pipeline in the UK & Ireland.

This is a newly created leadership opportunity within Elgin as the organization continues to grow its capability in the design and construction of high voltage grid connection assets. You will support the delivery of Elgin’s project pipeline to energisation by guiding a team of experts in managing project delivery workstreams throughout the design, procurement, construction, and commissioning phases. This role provides the opportunity to build a new team within the Elgin Grid Connections (EGC) Business Unit and to support and influence the development and growth of the wider Elgin team at a senior level.

To excel in this role, extensive knowledge of all relevant Construction and Health & Safety standards and regulations across the UK is required, along with strong technical expertise in electricity networks, relevant ENA Engineering Recommendations, and grid connection methodologies.

What you will do:

  • Establish and lead a team of project managers, project engineers, and construction management professionals, fostering a culture of safety, excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Provide strategic direction for all solar and storage grid connection projects, ensuring alignment with the company's goals and objectives.
  • Lead a workstream to achieve NERS Accreditation for Elgin Grid Connections, successfully positioning the organization as a Construction Independent Connection Provider (ICP).
  • Oversee the planning, execution, and completion of a portfolio of grid connection projects up to 132 kV, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
  • Demonstrate excellent knowledge of CDM 2015 requirements, with competence in establishing safe working practices.
  • Oversee all construction activities associated with connecting Elgin’s project portfolio to distribution networks in the UK and Ireland. Develop and manage project budgets, ensuring effective cost control and financial performance.
  • Maintain strong relationships with subcontractors, design teams, suppliers, network operators, and owner’s engineers, ensuring effective communication and coordination throughout the project delivery lifecycle.
  • Implement rigorous quality assurance and control processes to ensure all construction work meets or exceeds the technical specifications and industry standards.
  • Provide regular reports and updates to senior management and stakeholders on project progress, financial performance, and risk management.

Your profile

What you will need:

  • 10+ years of experience in project delivery, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role in the electricity transmission/distribution or renewables sectors.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field. A master’s degree or relevant professional certifications (e.g., PMP, CCM) is a plus.
  • Proven track record of successful project delivery of high voltage grid connection assets, with a focus on safety, timelines, quality, and cost.
  • Experience working successfully on multiple projects with demanding deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage large-scale projects and maintain relationships with multiple stakeholders and multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Strong commercial acumen, with experience in budget management and contract management.
  • Effective leadership and strategic thinking abilities.
