Title of position: Communication/Navigation Engineer, Senior

Job Summary

  • Applies expertise to improve performance and sustainability of existing and future AF and joint service weapon systems.
  • Assists with technical requirements compliance pertaining to avionics development, test, sustainment, and operations related to navigation, voice communication systems, Line of Sight (LOS) and Beyond Line of Sight (BLOS) data link systems, military and civilian communication networks, network protocols, Information Protection Security (IPSec), Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP)/Extensible Markup Language (XML) packaging of network commands, and air data systems to include performance, integrity, and airworthiness.
  • Applies an understanding of DoD, AF, and common engineering/scientific principles, processes, and procedures to improve performance and sustainability of existing and future AF and joint service weapon systems.
  • Understands the application of MIL-HDBK-516C Airworthiness Certification Criteria to aircraft systems and subsystems.
  • Supports System Integrity Programs including Mechanical Systems Integrity Program (MECSIP), assists in maintaining and updating the Critical Safety Item (CSI) list, and monitors airworthiness certification for mission partner aircraft.
  • Understands and executes Air Force Policy Directive (AFPD) 62-6, USAF Airworthiness, associated AFIs, and Airworthiness Bulletins through standardized processes and issuance of flight authorizations.
  • Assists in translating user requirements into weapon system requirements, which will be used to design, develop, fabricate, test, and evaluate weapon systems, subsystems, and equipment for eventual fielding and deployment.
  • Assists in performing technical/mission analyses of existing and future operational requirements, develops system concepts, and performs technological/trade-off assessments of proposed designs/modifications.
  • Provides support to produce or review technical products.

Required Experience

  • BS/MS degree in an ABET-accredited engineering discipline.
  • Minimum of 15 years’ functional area experience, including 5 years in DoD.
  • Ability to apply an understanding of DoD, AF, and common engineering/scientific principles, processes, and procedures to improve performance and sustainability of existing and future AF and joint service weapon systems.
  • Independently demonstrates proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and Skype/Lync), Adobe Acrobat, and applications for access to the world wide web.
  • U.S. Citizenship required. Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance at the required level.
