Substation Primary Electrical Engineer

About the Role

As a Substation Primary Electrical Engineer at Siemens Energy in Dublin, Ireland, you will have a diverse range of responsibilities related to protection and control schematics for Irish Substations up to 400kV, as well as LVAC, LVDC, and UPS equipment. Your expertise will be essential in producing engineering and test specifications for both new and existing solutions.

What you’ll bring:

  1. Extensive design experience within the Electricity Transmission and Distribution industry.
  2. Previously been a lead engineer with verification authority of all the design work of substation Primary design, preferably in the renewables industry.
  3. A Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  4. Excellent knowledge of layout and Primary Equipment for substations projects.
  5. Fully conversant with the latest Transmission and Distribution standards & technologies.
  6. Fully conversant with Health & Safety standards applicable to the design of High Voltage substations.
  7. Good standard of IT literacy – especially Word and Excel.
  8. Conversant with AutoCad.
  9. Conversant with checking the primary design on 3D models.

How you’ll make an impact:

  1. Leading a team to deliver the Primary engineering design adhering to the process.
  2. Technical responsibility for primary layout and equipment design on substations. Accountable for approving primary engineering design of the team as required.
  3. Verification authority of all Primary work, including layouts, technical specifications, loading calculations, loading data, and civil guidance drawings.
  4. Responsible for coordination with the departmental engineering consultant, client, civil, project management, and other interfaces to deliver high-quality technical output from the team in line with agreed delivery timescales and budget.
  5. Coordination with the engineering planner and supervising the engineering progress of the project, raising issues as required to the departmental Manager.
  6. Responsible for ensuring design risk assessments are in place for all design solutions and residual risks are passed on to the H&S file.
  7. Participate & contribute to HAZID, HAZCON & HAZOP reviews.
  8. Ensure consistency in design by chairing design reviews and adhering to design specifications and processes.
  9. Work on departmental improvement projects.
  10. Responsible for standardization of onshore primary design.
  11. Abide by all business compliance requirements in line with Company policies, such as Business Conduct Guidelines & Confidential Information.
  12. Teamwork and interpersonal skills, ownership, and accountability are pivotal for this role. Make a positive contribution to the team, act as a mentor, set goals, and clarify expectations of the team on project delivery.
  13. Accountable for managing their own time and that of others within the team, resources, programs, and budgets to be productive in the workplace.
