SCALAR is looking for a talented Engineering Manager (m/f/d)

to join our team in building our platform. Help us create modern, optimized, state-of-the-art customer experiences. You will lead a team of engineers, designers, and product owners to build modern services and evolve data-intensive applications for the transportation industry.

What you will do
  1. Lead, coach, and support a team of individual contributors, ensuring they have the resources to build our modern platform and grow their careers.
  2. Act as the link between your team and the broader organization, improving communication and addressing inefficiencies.
  3. Maintain high standards for quality, manage expectations, and shape our engineering practices and culture.
  4. Engage in technical and architectural discussions while keeping a comprehensive view of the platform's integration.
  5. Oversee hiring, promotions, and performance management in collaboration with HR and engineering leadership.
Your ideal profile

Proven background in engineering, design, or product within a software context, with experience leading engineering teams. Expertise in data-intensive, modern architecture (backend or frontend) with a solid understanding of SaaS and cloud product challenges and tradeoffs. Excellent communication skills, adept at working in a remote-first environment and managing the challenges of a distributed organization across different time zones. Previous experience in tech lead, management, or team lead roles, guiding individual contributors such as engineers, designers, or product professionals. Typically 10+ years in the software industry, valuing the quality of experience over the number of years, with an engineering or architecture background and fluency in JavaScript and/or C.
