Description
BDO Ireland's Audit & Assurance Quality Management and Technical Group is experiencing growth, and we currently have an exciting opportunity for a non-client facing role; Manager | Quality Management & Technical.

In this role, you will work closely with the Audit & Assurance department's Leaders and Management team to help support our audit quality management agenda, together with various technical areas. The A&A Quality management and technical group delivers the foundations for audit quality in the form of methodology, policies, reviews, coaching support, procedures, templates, guidance, and training.

You will be guided and supported in your role by our Head of Audit & Assurance Quality Management (HAAQM) and the firm's Audit Quality and Technical Director.
Key Responsibilities
  • Support the audit teams on more complex technical audit issues and the application of relevant standards through technical queries and consultations.
  • Assisting in the performance of pre-issuance reviews to ensure compliance with regulatory and internal standards.
  • Identify, advise on and communicate changes in relevant regulatory, compliance and ethical requirements applicable to Audit through monitoring of appropriate accountancy and regulatory bodies.
  • Assist in maintaining appropriate documentation and intellectual resources and monitoring of policies and procedures in line with regulatory and compliance requirements.
  • Promote a quality culture by supporting the development and delivery of quality and technical education and training programmes. This would include:
  1. Identifying any required legislative or policy updates and designing and conducting training on these topics in Audit.
  2. Monitoring and overseeing changes in trends internally to develop effective training/communication interventions that prevent violations of regulations and internal policies.
  3. Ensuring all required reporting is completed in an accurate and timely fashion.
  • Support the delivery of compliance processes and procedures to ensure that the firm's system of quality management is maintained under ISQM 1 and that sound and responsible business practices are incorporated into the day-to-day operations of the business.
  • Assess and produce high quality work in line with the Firm's policy and processes, meeting relevant regulatory requirements.
  • Draft technical guidance and develop templates/examples to support the audit teams in delivering consistent quality audits.
  • Work alongside other subject matter experts and stakeholders from across the firm to ensure a consistent approach to quality standards and risk mitigation.
  • Assist the Firm's Audit Quality Director in the performance of the firm's internal inspection process (IIP) and Quality Assurance Reviews (QAR)
  • Provide support during external audit inspections conducted by organizations such as IAASA, CAI, and BDO Global.
  • Provide updates to the Audit Partners/Management teams, HAAQM, Firm Leadership and Risk Committee as appropriate to support their quality communications and reporting.
  • Assist the firm's A&A Quality Management and Technical Group in research projects on various matters as they pertain to audit quality and technical matters for input into external committees.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
  • Experience in Audit Quality or Audit Experience with a passion to develop in this area is essential.
  • CAI or ACCA Qualified Accountant or equivalent.
  • 3 + years post qualification relevant audit/accounting experience with a strong interest in technical accounting and auditing advice.
  • Good understanding of underlying International Standards on Auditing (Ireland &UK)
  • Detailed knowledge and experience of providing focused regulatory and technical support and advice.
  • Experience of audit quality monitoring, as well as the ability to plan and devise new solutions.
  • Robust understanding of the Irish regulatory, accounting and audit framework.
  • Good communication skills will also be key as you will be required to deal with stakeholders at all levels within the business.
  • Strong project management skills, particularly in relation to managing expectations of a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Positive attitude and a high level of personal drive to guide change initiatives and see them through to completion.
  • Ability to build effective relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong multitasking skills and ability to handle challenging deadlines and function effectively in changing circumstances.
  • Strong practical and theoretical knowledge of auditing, ethical, and accounting standards, including IFRS and a good knowledge of relevant applicable company law and requirements.
  • A passion for quality and helping audit teams to develop their knowledge and audit and assurance skills.
  • Ability and willingness to challenge and influence more senior individuals and peers.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple work commitments, and to meet targets and deadlines.
  • Experience of identifying issues through sound analysis and application of commercial acumen.
  • Experience of performing 'hot' or 'cold' audit file reviews is desirable, but not essential.
  • Experience of developing new initiatives and methodologies is desirable, but not essential.
  • Comfortable managing complex projects, and not afraid to roll up their sleeves to get things done.
