Sr. Manager, Incident Tooling, Resilience Infrastructure

Dublin, Dublin City, Ireland Amazon Full time
Sr. Manager, Software Development (Incident Tooling), Resilience Infrastructure & Solutions
Drive incident tooling and response for AWS services to reduce duration of customer-impacting incidents.

Take ownership of a global charter, to drive next generation of incident software and processes to help continually improve customers' availability experience on AWS.

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we're the people who keep the cloud running.

We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on.

We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain — and we're looking for talented people who want to help.

You'll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles.

You'll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers.

And you'll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion.

Key job responsibilities
Build and execute long-term roadmap for incident software used by AWS resolvers, services leaders, and senior leadership. Drive a high operational excellence bar for incident tooling, and ensure this tooling works reliably during large-scale events.

Lead, grow, and sustain a global team of builders who will deliver/operate incident software, respond to large-scale customer impacting events.

Drive best-practices/mechanisms for incident resolution across AWS.

A day in the life
You think and operate your area independently, strategically (with a long-term outlook), with high judgment, and high empathy. You meet with your team on a regular cadence to help build/guide/audit the incident tooling roadmap.

You are deep in the details, review metrics/responses from the previous week's incidents to identify learnings, and celebrate what went well.

You meet with your builders 1:1 and 1:
N to help guide their work and career development, and listen to their input. You regularly incorporate feedback from your team and customers in your operating model.

You attend org level ops meetings to help present your team's operational wins and COEs, and learn from your partner teams as well.

You partner with upstream services your tooling is dependent on, and your customers (other AWS services, leaders) on areas to collaborate on.

About the team
The RIS organization's mission is to make customer-impacting incidents fewer and shorter. As part of this mission, we deliver incident tooling (e.g. service monitoring, driving engagements with resolvers, incident management tools)/response and mitigation (e.g. zonal shift)/prevention (e.g. ORR, COE, Game days).

The team has a constant drive to get stuff done, delivering value to our customers every day, and not being afraid to invent or re-invent as needed.

While we try to move fast & make quick decisions on paths forward, we balance this with a priority for maintaining availability/resilience of the things we ship and operate.

While we have a culture of high engagement, and awareness of the responsibility we carry to help with overall AWS availability, we believe in and encourage our builders and leaders to maintain a strong work-life harmony.

Diverse Experiences
AWS values diverse experiences.

Even if you do not meet all of the qualifications and skills listed in the job description, we encourage candidates to apply.

If your career is just starting, hasn't followed a traditional path, or includes alternative experiences, don't let it stop you from applying.

Why AWS?
Amazon Web Services (AWS) is the world's most comprehensive and broadly adopted cloud platform.

We pioneered cloud computing and never stopped innovating — that's why customers from the most successful startups to Global 500 companies trust our robust suite of products and services to power their businesses.

Inclusive Team Culture
Here at AWS, it's in our nature to learn and be curious. Our employee-led affinity groups foster a culture of inclusion that empower us to be proud of our differences.

Ongoing events and learning experiences, including our Conversations on Race and Ethnicity (CORE) and AmazeCon (gender diversity) conferences, inspire us to never stop embracing our uniqueness.

That's why you'll find endless knowledge-sharing, mentorship and other career-advancing resources here to help you develop into a better-rounded professional.

Work/Life Balance
We value work-life harmony.

Achieving success at work should never come at the expense of sacrifices at home, which is why we strive for flexibility as part of our working culture.
