The AWS Managed Operations (MO) team, established in April 2023, aims to reduce operational load through extensive engineering projects. We're on a mission to construct a top-tier engineering and operations team responsible for the day-to-day functionality of AWS Regions, enhancing availability, reliability, latency, performance, and efficiency across AWS regions.

Amazon is seeking highly motivated Systems Development Engineers who can effectively navigate the daily operations of AWS' software systems while implementing long-term engineering solutions to minimize operational burden.

We are looking for engineers who thrive on continual learning and exploring the vast array of systems and technologies that power one of the world's leading cloud providers.

AWS Utility Computing (UC) is at the forefront of product innovation, offering foundational services like Amazon's Simple Storage Service (S3) and Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), along with regular new product releases that continuously elevate AWS's services above the rest.
As part of the UC team, you will contribute to the development and management of Compute, Database, Storage, Internet of Things (IoT), Platform, and Productivity Apps services within AWS.
A Day in the Life:
  • You'll divide your time evenly between operating production systems and implementing long-term enhancements to boost the reliability, availability, and performance of these software systems.
  • Throughout the week, your tasks may include troubleshooting recent deployment issues, executing critical changes to production, and collaborating with your team to enhance system reliability.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 3+ years of experience in software development or related field with proficiency in at least one modern programming language such as Java, TypeScript, Python, or Ruby
  • 3+ years of experience with Linux, command line usage, basic administration, and computer networking fundamentals
  • Ability to troubleshoot network, operating system, and software application issues
  • Experience in supporting cloud systems or services with a focus on troubleshooting and problem anticipation to enhance performance and reliability
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills across various languages
  • Experience in operating 24x7 high-availability distributed software applications, performance tuning, and fleet utilization optimization
  • Proficient in network fundamentals and monitoring frameworks (e.g., DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, CloudWatch, Datadog)
  • Proficiency in scripting operating system tasks and Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Bash, Python, CDK, CloudFormation)
  • Experience in operating services within AWS
