Job Description

The Role:

In this role you will manage the on-site construction activities for Elgin Energy's project pipeline.

This is a newly created opportunity with Elgin Energy as we are growing our construction management services team. You will assist with establishing sound CDM standards, systems and procedures for Elgin Energy's construction activities as well as prepare, manage and report on project construction milestones, budgets, cash flows and program at a portfolio level.

You will have the opportunity to support and co-ordinate with the wider project delivery team to enhance the development and delivery of Elgin Energy's project pipeline to Commercial Operation by providing guidance throughout the design, procurement, construction, and commissioning phases.

What you will do:
  • Manage several construction projects in parallel, depending on scale and complexity, taking ownership of project budget, program and reporting.
  • Co-ordinate and manage close working relationships with external contractors, consultants, suppliers and other relevant stakeholders throughout the construction process.
  • Proactively identify and solve problems as they arise, taking preventative measures to avoid risks to the project schedule and budget. Manage and report on deviations from project schedules, budgets or scope at portfolio level.
  • Provide technical advice to the senior management team to ensure all construction management factors during the build process are appropriately considered and risk assessed and are in compliance with Elgin's requirements, Construction, Health & Safety and Grid Code standards and legislation.
  • Support the development of tender documentation and review, in conjunction with the wider Elgin team, contractor designs, processes and commercial proposals.
  • Support the negotiation of efficient and cost-effective contracts for project delivery where required
  • Co-ordinate with the wider project delivery team to ensure projects are constructed in a safe, efficient and cost-effective manner
  • Co-ordinate Owner's Engineer services on site
  • Support and influence the development and growth of the wider project delivery team

Your profile

What you will need:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil/Mechanical/Electrical/Energy Engineering or related discipline.
  • 4+ years' experience working in renewable energy or related infrastructure
  • Proven track record of construction management and site experience, preferably in the construction of renewable energy assets.
  • Evidence of successfully managing multiple projects to demanding deadlines
  • Strong technical knowledge all relevant Construction and Health & Safety standards and regulations
  • Knowledge of MV and HV electrical designs and grid connection methodologies.
  • Strong commercial, technical and safety conscious approach to risk vs reward measures
  • Proficient in communication, resource management and the use of software, particularly Microsoft Office suite.
  • Valid driver's license for UK & Ireland.

Elgin Energy is a full-service, utility scale, solar+storage platform bringing projects from origination through to energisation. Elgin is active across the project lifecycle from project origination through to construction management and operational asset management. The company has over 12GW of solar and storage projects across our three key markets of the UK, Australia, and Ireland.

As of 2022, Elgin Energy agreed to sell the UK's largest solar PV transaction to date consisting of a portfolio of 12 projects with a combined capacity of 519MW of projects including 70MW of collocated energy storage capacity to Scottish Power Renewables (UK) Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of global utility Iberdrola Group.

In addition to the above, Elgin Energy delivered 21 solar projects, totalling 230MW, before the UK Government's Renewables Obligation (ROCs) scheme ended in 2017.
