Introduction to Role:

Join our team as the Head of Medical - Ireland, a key member of the senior leadership team at our Ireland Marketing Company. You will play a crucial role in driving the company's overall goals by setting the vision and direction for the medical organization's development through strategic planning and alignment with global/regional policies and strategies.

You will lead the medical organization to deliver essential capabilities and behaviors for successful implementation of medical activities, leading to scientific excellence and achievement of the Medical Affairs mission. As the functional head in Ireland, you will be responsible for defining the strategic direction, setting medical capability standards, and overseeing business/resource planning and people processes.

You will ensure operational excellence in patient safety, medical information, regulatory affairs, and support the clinical development program for pipeline products while ensuring compliance with company standards and ethical guidelines.

Additional Accountabilities:

  • Supports the implementation of the national strategy for AstraZeneca Ireland in the Medical Affairs function
  • Provides expert advice and support to enhance the effectiveness of the Medical Affairs Function
  • Leads or supports major projects at the area or Regional level
  • Oversees large brand medical projects to ensure compliance with regulations
  • Conducts succession planning and supports talent pipeline development
  • Manages Regulatory/MIPS responsibilities

Essential Skills/Experience:

  • Qualified Medical Doctor or PhD in a relevant scientific discipline
  • Extensive experience in leading a Medical Affairs function in the pharmaceutical industry
  • Experience in oncology, respiratory & immunology, or cardiovascular, renal & metabolic disease
  • Strong background in relationship and stakeholder management
  • Product lifecycle and launch management expertise
  • Project and team management experience
  • Awareness of budget management

Desirable Skills/Experience:

  • Knowledge of technical and regulatory developments
  • MBA qualification
  • Above-market experience (regional, global)
  • Understanding of national pharmaceutical industry and health policy environment
  • Experience in externally sponsored research and engagement with study groups
  • Proficiency in regulatory affairs, pharmacovigilance, and GxP compliance
