About the Role:
AWS Infrastructure Services is responsible for the design, implementation, and maintenance of all AWS global infrastructure. In essence, we are the team that keeps the cloud operational and running smoothly.
We oversee all AWS data centers, managing servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling systems to guarantee uninterrupted access to the innovations our customers depend on.
We tackle complex challenges, dealing with numerous variables that affect the supply chain — and we are on the lookout for talented individuals eager to make a difference.
What You'll Do:
- Collaborate with vendors to assess new hardware and software features and devise implementation strategies for network integration.
- Automate optical testing procedures and validate optical modules.
- Work with network operations team to address operational issues and enhance quality and RMA processes.
A Day in the Life:
- On a daily basis, you'll dive into the expanding AWS network and the interconnect solutions our internal customers require. You'll work on creating hardware solutions, influencing the industry, and developing software tools to maintain a robust network that delights AWS customers.
- We encourage our engineers to craft simple solutions to complex problems, keeping in mind cost, performance, and reliability. Collaboration with internal partners is key to ensuring our solutions meet and exceed expectations.
Join Our Team:
The Core Networking team is seeking an Optical Network Development Engineer to join our Data Center Regional Network Engineering Services team.
The team focuses on building and sustaining data centers and the networks that enable their efficient operation. We strive to achieve a balance between efficiency, performance, and reliability to provide customers with seamless access to their applications and data.
Key Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or equivalent
- 6+ years' experience in large DWDM networks and Optical network technologies
- 3+ years' experience with optical planning and modelling tools
- Proficiency in Python or similar tools for network automation scripting
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in planning and deploying high-capacity DWDM and Optical network systems
- Competence in Linux/Unix environments
- Strong skills in automation scripting using Python, Bash, Shell, or Perl
- Background in highly available networks and operational awareness
- Demonstrated leadership principles and technical depth
