Network Development Engineer, Frontier Networking

The Core Networking team is searching for a Network Development Engineer to join the Network Fabric Engineering (NFE) team.
As a Network Development Engineer, your role will involve constructing, deploying, and expanding the Amazon networks that support AWS, clients, and other business units, across various global datacenters.
AWS Core Networking is dedicated to constructing Data Centers and the network that enables Data Centers to operate smoothly. We are responsible for the solutions that enable racks to be grouped and Data Centers to be linked together. The main objective of Core Networking is to maintain a balance between efficiency, performance, and reliability to grant clients access to their applications and data.

AWS Infrastructure Services is responsible for the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In simple terms, we are the team that keeps the cloud operational.
We oversee all AWS data centers, along with the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that guarantee our clients have constant access to the technology they depend on.
We tackle the most complex challenges, dealing with numerous factors that influence the supply chain — and we are seeking talented individuals who are eager to contribute.
You will join a diverse team comprising software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain experts, security professionals, operations managers, and other crucial roles.
You will collaborate with various teams at AWS to uphold the highest standards for safety and security while delivering virtually limitless capacity at the most affordable rates for our clients.

Key Responsibilities
- Deploy network infrastructure across all network fabrics supporting Amazon Retail Service, Kindle, Payments, and multiple AWS services
- Automate and scale the network across various global datacenters, including existing locations and new sites
- Enhance current network designs to meet customer demands
- Create efficient and consistent deployment processes to boost speed and quality
- Collaborate with internal teams on design and solutions, taking concepts to production
- Establish and update network standards, ensuring deployment adherence
- Implement network modifications, working closely with automation teams
- Define tools for scalability in collaboration with automation teams
A Day in the Life
- Automate network deployments utilizing Python and internal tools
- Discuss network designs with team members
- Participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation and respond to critical events as necessary
- Assist customers during issue resolution while maintaining operative under pressure
- Remain alert and focused while working on the computer during scheduled hours with appropriate breaks
About the Team
Frontier Networking is responsible for the unconventional network operations that fall beyond traditional Datacenter boundaries.
We cater to internal clients introducing new AWS services that are not easily supported by existing networks, such as AWS Outposts, Ground Station, and Snow.
You will collaborate with a team of NDEs focusing on deployment, automation, and scaling, within a broader organization encompassing Network and Software teams.
Interactions with internal customers in partner organizations are also part of the role.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline or equivalent experience in a large-scale network environment
- 1+ years experience in a network focused hands-on technical role working with IP routing protocols/technologies and platforms in large scale data center and/or WAN network environments
- 1+ years Unix/Linux command line experience
- Comprehensive understanding of TCP/IP networking, IP routing, Server Load Balancing, and Network Security architecture
- Proficiency in network analysis and troubleshooting network performance issues
- Experience in collaborating with clients to diagnose and resolve problems
- Proficient in Unix/Linux and scripting in Perl, Python, shell, C, or C++
- Strong grasp of load balancing and layer 4-7 technologies
