There is one current permanent, full-time Clinical Nurse Specialist / Clinical Midwife Specialist - Ultrasonography position vacant at the Midland Regional Hospital Portlaoise.

A panel may be established from this recruitment process for future vacancies, either permanent or specified purpose, on a full-time or part-time basis.

Purpose of the Post:

To provide fetal assessment and ultrasonography services to women at Midlands Regional Hospital, Portlaoise.

The successful candidate will play a crucial role in the multidisciplinary team, offering a patient-centered service. This specialization involves assessing, planning, delivering, and evaluating patient care and building strong relationships with patients and their families.

The CNS/CMS role aligns with the five core concepts outlined in the Framework for the Establishment of Clinical Nurse/Midwife Specialist Posts, 4th edition, by the National Council for the Professional Development of Nursing and Midwifery (NCNM).

The CNS/CMS will initially focus on pregnant women and women with gynecological issues.

The key areas are:

  • Clinical Focus (Direct and Indirect Care)
  • Education and Training
  • Audit and Research
  • Consultancy (including clinical practice leadership)

Eligibility Criteria:

i) Be a registered nurse/midwife with An Bord Altranais and Cnáimhseachais na hÉireann (Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland) or eligible for registration.

And

ii) Be registered in the relevant division(s) of the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland Register or eligible for registration.

Or

In exceptional cases, be registered in another division of the Nurses and Midwives Register.

And

(iii) A minimum of 1 year of full-time post-registration experience or an aggregated 1 years' experience in the applied division.

And

(iv) A minimum of 1-year experience or an aggregated 1-year full-time experience in Obstetric Ultrasonography.

And

(v) Completion of a post-registration program certified by QQI, NFQ level 9 or higher relevant to the specialist care area (at least 60 ECTS credits), meeting National Council for Nursing and Midwifery requirements.

Alternatively, provide documentation confirming attaining Level 9 ECTS credits relevant to specialist care area.

And

(vi) Demonstrate continuing professional development relevant to the specialist area.

Note: Nurses/Midwives with a level 8 qualification in the specialist area will be considered until September 2026.

Practice safely and effectively within their scope of practice.

Annual Registration

(i) Maintain live annual registration with the relevant Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland Division.

And

(ii) Confirm registration with NMBI to HSE through the Service User Safety Assurance Certificate (PSAC).

Health

Candidates must be physically and mentally fit to fulfill their duties efficiently.

Character

Must have a good character.

Post Specific:

Show substantial Nursing/Midwifery experience in Obstetric Ultrasound.

· Agree to obtain the Nurse Prescribing of Medicinal Products Certificate within a specified time.

· Agree to obtain the Nurse Prescribing of Ionizing Radiation Certificate within a specific timeframe.
