Occupational Therapist - Alzheimer's Care Centre, Care of the Elderly
  • Highfield Healthcare has a history of providing care driven by values and centered on individuals, offering a supportive team-based approach for healthcare professionals, promoting staff development.

The Occupational Therapist will provide a comprehensive service with physical, sensory, and cognitive interventions to meet residents' Occupational Therapy needs in the service.

Working jointly with allied health and social care professionals, offering guidance to junior occupational therapists.

The Occupational Therapist must adhere to the ethical standards of the Association of Occupational Therapists of Ireland.
Principal Duties & ResponsibilitiesProfessional / Clinical
  • Promote the Occupational Therapy profession within Alzheimer's Care Centre services, showing clinical expertise in elderly care and dementia services.
  • Respect residents' and staff's values, beliefs, and needs, involving them in decision-making processes.
  • Support and delegate tasks to Occupational Therapy staff.
  • Ensure compliance with professional and organisational standards and guidelines in Occupational Therapy practice.
  • Stay updated with developments in the field and apply to practice where relevant.
  • Contribute expertise to organisational initiatives locally and internationally.
  • Provide specialized support to staff in the service areas.
Managing a Caseload
  • Demonstrate advanced clinical reasoning in assessments and interventions with residents.
  • Prioritize interventions using available resources effectively.
  • Collaborate with MDT colleagues for comprehensive patient care.
  • Manage clinical responsibilities through effective time management.
Planning, Maintaining and Evaluating a Quality Service
  • Demonstrate advanced clinical knowledge and skills, providing support to Occupational Therapy staff.
  • Specialize in Dementia care and conduct assessments in line with evidence-based practice.
  • Deliver training on best practice standards to staff.
  • Implement quality improvement initiatives based on evidence-based practice.
  • Oversee resources for optimal service delivery and outcomes.
Communication
  • Communicate information clearly and maintain effective relationships within the team and with stakeholders.
  • Promote cross-discipline communication for coordinated patient care.
  • Handle obstacles constructively for person-centered decision-making.
Leadership and Service Development
  • Manage the clinical speciality areas and act as a resource for the team.
  • Promote the Occupational Therapy service at various levels.
  • Identify and prioritize service requirements.
  • Develop guidelines for safe practice and advance Occupational Therapy within the service.
  • Lead research projects and collaborate with stakeholders.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Occupational Therapy or equivalent qualification recognized by WFOT.
  • Fully registered with CORU and a member of AOTI.
  • Minimum four years post-qualification experience.
  • Experience in care of the elderly and Senior Occupational Therapist level is desirable.
  • Skills in posture and seating assessment.
