The role of the Team Leader is a pivotal role in managing the day to day delivery of a residential service in conjunction with the Team Manager.

The successful candidate must provide leadership in the development of the service in line with Personal Outcomes Measures, HIQA standards, new directions and future service requirements.

The vision of the Orchard Services, Gort is to support people with intellectual disabilities to achieve a full and valued life in their community.

Our focus is to form a relationship / partnership with each individual and their family to support people to be valued citizens in their local community and to have ordinary life experiences.

Community Networking Reporting/Responsible To:
Team Manager/Service Coordinator/ Area Manager

Qualifications:

  • A current Live Register Certificate from An Bord Altranais is essential; RNID/RGN/RMHN qualification is desirable.
  • An appropriate management qualification is desirable.
  • A full clean manual Driving Licence, which qualifies you to drive manual transmission vehicles. It is essential for the appointee to drive the transport that is assigned to the Service.

Experience:
The successful candidate must have experience of working with people with an intellectual disability. Understanding of an integrated day programme in a residential setting is an advantage.

Understanding of community networking, supporting individuals to partake in activities in their local community, goal setting and programme implementation, is desirable.

Working with people with complex medical needs, physical disabilities, dementia, challenging behaviour and mental health is an advantage.

Skills:
Candidates must demonstrate leadership. Experience in leading, managing, rostering and supporting staff teams is essential.

Candidates must have the ability to exercise good judgement, discretion and confidentiality, to communicate effectively in both written and verbal forms and co-operate in a team environment with a person-centred philosophy.

Report writing and record keeping is an essential part of the post. IT skills and experience in the use of multimedia technology are a requirement of the post.

Working Hours:
75 hours per fortnight based on a 14 day duty roster. Contracted hours of work are liable to change over 7 days to meet the requirements of the service. The successful candidate may be required to work weekends, public holidays, split shifts, sleepover and night duty if necessary. The working roster will be agreed with the team manager to meet the needs of the service. An On Call commitment is an essential requirement of the post.

The Brothers of Charity model of service is based on Personal Outcome Measures requiring employees to be flexible in their working hours to provide a quality service delivery for each individual.


Annual Leave:
25 days per annum. Appropriate service related leave will be granted after 5 and 10 years' service respectively.

Annual leave must be planned in conjunction with the Service Coordinator, as one or other must be available for work at all times.


Remuneration:
Department of Health Clinical Nurse Manager 1 salary scale of € 52,712 x 7 increments - €62,077 (max) per annum

Probation:
A probationary period of 9 months from the date of appointment applies to the post.

The employment may be terminated at any time during the probationary period should the employer find that the appointee is unsuitable to continue employment.

The probation period may be extended at the Employer's discretion.

Tenure:
This role is permanent full-time and pensionable.

JOB DESCRIPTION The Brothers of Charity model of service is based on Personal Outcome Measures requiring employees to be flexible both in their approach, and in their working hours to provide a quality service delivery for each individual.


Specific Conditions:

  • Staff must have a positive attitude towards working with persons with an intellectual disability and help to ensure that they lead as normal and enjoyable a life as possible.
  • Staff must treat each person with an intellectual disability as an individual and at all times acknowledge and respect the rights and personal dignity of the person with an intellectual disability.
  • Staff are required to establish and maintain relationships with adults with disabilities that are based on respect and equality and that promotes their independence

Main duties and functions:

  • Empower and support individuals to develop and maintain independence to their maximum potential in line with the capacity act.
  • Develop positive relationships with the people supported and assist them in making informed decisions.
  • To actively manage, delegate and lead the staff team.
  • Facilitate positive communication relationships with individuals' families, work colleagues, day staff and members of the multi-disciplinary team.
  • Take responsibility for the day to day running of the house along with the budget.
  • Be an active member of the team to which you are assigned.
  • Manage and supervise the performance of staff assigned to the service, including responsibility for timekeeping, attendance management, and rosters and planning annual leave.
  • Ensure that the standard of service deliver to all persons supported is of the highest professional standard using Individual Personal Outcomes Plan and Key Worker system.
  • Ensure that services are delivered in line with HIQA regulations and New Directions.
  • Advocate for the people supported in all aspects of life by developing a good working relationship with the family and other people involved in their lives.
  • Support individuals in participating in the life of their local community and develop and maintain a supporting community network.
  • Support individuals in developing and maintaining friendships and other relationships.
  • Support individuals in exercising their rights and managing their finances.
  • Assist the people supported in accessing public services such as medical services, public transport, and other related services
  • Assist people supported to achieve personal goals and choices with regard to employment, education, home environment and leisure activities.
  • Foster and encourage independence and initiative in the people supported in your programme.
  • Assist people supported in maintaining good health and help to receive appropriate healthcare and maintain good personal hygiene.
  • Assist individuals in developing and maintaining housekeeping skills and maintaining a clean home. Ensure the group home is maintained to a high standard of cleanliness and décor.
  • Organise and run the service(s) to which you are appointed.
  • Motivate and work with staff to ensure high standards of work practices within the Service.
  • Work closely with all staff and support each staff member in their role as key-worker.
  • Identify issues arising within the homes and ensure these are communicated promptly to the Team Manager/Service Coordinator/Deputy or Area Manager.
  • In conjunction with the Team Manager/Service Coordinator/Deputy, identify both individual and team training needs, and take part in training courses as required.
  • Control expenditure through careful management and close monitoring of rosters, relief staff management, annual leave, sick leave, etc.
  • Maintain records with respect to people supported, staff, finances, and purchasing, as are required.
  • Take responsibility for the routine maintenance of the service.
  • Drive the service vehicle when required.
  • It is essential for the appointee to attend mandatory and essential training, and continue professional development and always adhere to evidence base practice.
  • Ensure medication is administered in accordance with the Service policy.
  • Be responsible for the monitoring and management of the medical needs of individuals.
  • Plan and record staff meetings and supervision meetings throughout the year.
  • Ensure that all staff strictly adhere to rules of confidentiality concerning people supported, including the safe storage of reports and records as outlined in the GDPR guidelines.
  • Promote dignity at work and respect all stakeholders in the course of duty.
  • Ensure that all staff operate within the policies and procedures of the Service in all aspects of their work.
  • Be aware of and become familiar with fire drill procedures within the Service, i.e. fire detection, evacuation and firefighting. To be conscious of Health & Safety matters in the workplace and, in particular, to comply with employees' obligations as set out under Section 9 of the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005.
  • Ensure that all accidents to people supported, staff or visitors are reported in accordance with Service policy.
  • Perform such other duties appropriate to the post as may be assigned to him/her by the Team Manager/Service Coordinator/Deputy or Area Manager. All duties must be carried out in person at all times.
  • As the duties and responsibilities of any post in the Service are likely to change with the ongoing needs of the people supported, i.e. age, level of disability, etc. staff are expected to have a high level of flexibility, willingness and an ability to develop new approaches to their work as the individuals' needs demand. The role of the post holder will not be limited by reference to this Job Description. It would be expected that the role will evolve as professional, structural and demands of the people supported change and the post holder will be expected to demonstrate flexibility skills that will facilitate this.
