An established senior role in a large regulated financial services firm operating in Ireland for many decades as part of a Global business. The role will serve as Mercer Ireland Ltd.'s Head of Finance (PCF 11) and subject to successfully completing an initial period, the individual will be appointed as Executive Director (PCF 1) on the Mercer Ireland Ltd. Board, reporting to MMC Ireland's Group CFO.

This role will be responsible for all the Company's internal and external reporting requirements as well as overseeing capital requirements, pension levels etc. This is a regulated role with board representation, the successful candidate will be expected to uphold the highest professional and conduct standards while being a key leader in the firm and the wider MMC Ireland finance team.

We will rely on you to:

  • Contribute to the business of the firm at a board level and add value to executive decision making.
  • Be a leader and advocate for the firm and the finance team through representation on various leadership forums, Executive Risk Committees, Board, and its sub-committees.
  • Responsible for all periodic and ad-hoc financial reporting to Central Bank of Ireland, Board of Directors, Group Finance and Auditors among other stakeholders.
  • Direct and lead the team on all accounting, tax and reporting aspects in an offshore and strong control environment.
  • Direct and lead the regulated client asset oversight and treasury teams to prioritise safeguarding of client assets as per regulations.
  • Partner with the business and provide guidance and direction on finance matters to firm's leadership.
  • Responsible for proposing statutory budgets, annual internal capital adequacy procedures, capital, interest rate, FX and pension monitoring.
  • Lead relationships with regulators, auditors, tax advisors, bankers, and other corporate stakeholders to ensure effective and efficient outcomes.
  • Support the Group CFO in managing stakeholder expectations from group, auditors (external and internal), tax advisors (external and internal), legal, compliance and business colleagues.
  • Work as part of the broader finance team, and a commitment to collaborating on goals set out by management and business leaders.
  • Lead implementation of accounting standard changes in local and US GAAP and their alignment.
  • Ensure compliance with corporate policies, local/US GAAP and local statutory regulations (as applicable) regarding financial matters.
  • Provide support in continuously identifying more efficient and effective ways of operating as a business and a function.
  • Provide support on other group companies as required.


What you will need to have:

  • University degree in finance, accounting, or economics with Professional Accounting Qualification such as ACA, ACCA, CIMA.
  • Relevant experience of working in regulated financial services and independent board environment.
  • Ability to prioritise multiple demands and guide stakeholders to focus on the key issues.
  • Excellent leadership and influencing skills with an ability to make complex issues simple and to foresee and resolve problems.
  • Willingness to get into the details to understand the issues but retaining the ability to see the big picture.
  • Technologically minded exploiting more effective and efficient ways of delivering.

What will make you stand out:

  • First-hand experience of working in a similar PCF role for a MiFID regulated company.
  • Working knowledge of Client Asset regulations, IFD/ IFR Capital Requirements and Pension level monitoring.
