Overview
AWS is set to introduce the inaugural European Sovereign Cloud (ESC), marking a significant development in utility computing (UC).
We are seeking experienced systems engineers with a strong background in automation and operations, particularly in Active Directory and Exchange environments.
As part of the AWS Managed Operations team, you will help build and operate critical identity management infrastructure for high-availability AWS services exclusive to EU customers.

Responsibilities
Oversee the launch of the ESC in 2025, working closely with global AWS teams and influencing the evolution of AWS services and technology, with a focus on Directory Services and Exchange.
Maintain and enhance existing services, including Windows build/deployment capabilities, application packaging/deployment, and break/fix resolution.
Collaborate with technology leaders, contribute to day-to-day operational improvements, and ensure improvements in availability, reliability, latency, performance, and efficiency of the ESC, emphasizing identity management and Exchange.
Participate in on-call rotations to resolve incidents outside standard hours as required.
Deliver scalable, highly available service operations for EU customers for Active Directory and Exchange.

You will operate and improve one of the largest software systems, including Windows build/deployment capabilities.
Weekly activities include reviewing operational health, creating actionable bug reports, following change management processes for production changes, resolving backlog items, and writing scripts to help identify root causes more quickly.
Eligibility requirements
Fluency in written and spoken English is required
Successful applicants must have the legal right to work in Germany
Amazon will provide relocation support for successful applicants relocating within the European Union
This position involves on-call responsibility
Basic Qualifications
9+ years supporting Windows family of operating systems, including at least 4 of the following 8 core competencies: AD, Exchange, DHCP, Email workflow, SCCM, SCOM, Win OS, DNS, and disaster recovery/business continuity
Proficient in leading and driving operational best practices, including creation, revision, and improvement of SOPs
Strong scripting experience in Bash, Python, or PowerShell, particularly for automation of Active Directory and Exchange tasks
Expertise in directory schema design, data integration, identity and access management, directory services, and LDAP systems
Demonstrated proficiency in system monitoring, troubleshooting, and anticipating problems affecting performance, reliability, and availability
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working cross-organizationally and leading strategic team efforts requiring work from multiple team members
Experience performance tuning software applications and optimizing fleet utilization, including for Active Directory Services and Exchange environments
Experience with Infrastructure as Code (CDK, CloudFormation, Puppet, Chef, Ansible, or similar)
Experience with network and federated authentication protocols like Kerberos, NTLM, OIDC, and SAML
Experience implementing and maintaining backup strategies and disaster recovery procedures for Active Directory and Exchange
Demonstrable track record dealing with ambiguity, prioritizing needs, and delivering measurable results
Clear verbal and written communication skills for creating and collaborating on technical documentation (SOPs, Run-books, Job Sheets)
