Salary:
Appointment will be made on Grade VII salary scale (€59,419- €72,067 LSI €74,650 - €77,243 ) at a point in line with Government pay policy.
Hours of work:
Full-Time, 35 Hours per week

Senior Technical Lead - Cochlear Department System Upgrade
The Paediatric Programme of the NHIVRC, currently based at Beaumont Hospital, will transition some services to the New Children's Hospital in 2026.
To enhance patient care, an integrated model of care will be developed across both sites, which includes the implementation of a National Cochlear Implant Registry to track all Class III medical devices in line with EU regulations.
The implementation will occur in three phases:
Phase 1: Integration of the National Registry with Beaumont Hospital's PAS and audiology equipment, including data migration for over 6,000 patients.
Phase 2: Installation at the New Children's Hospital, including integration and testing of audiology equipment and ICT infrastructure for data sharing.
Phase 3: Integration with CIH EHR, EPIC.
We are seeking a highly experienced and technically proficient
Senior Technical Lead - Cochlear Department System Upgrade
to spearhead a critical project to upgrade and optimise our Cochlear Department's ICT infrastructure.
In this senior role, you will take the lead in managing the design, implementation, and ongoing support of the system upgrade.
You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including clinical staff, project managers, and external vendors, to ensure the successful deployment of advanced technology solutions.
Your expertise will be essential in guiding technical decision-making and providing strategic direction throughout the lifecycle of the upgrade.
Responsibilities
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Project Leadership and Technical Oversight:
Lead the technical aspects of the Cochlear Department system upgrade, including infrastructure design, implementation, and optimisation, ensuring that all solutions meet the department's unique clinical and operational requirements.
Collaborate with senior stakeholders to define the project scope, timeline, and technical objectives, ensuring alignment with overall departmental goals.
Liaise with the Hospitals ICT department, ensuring clear communication, alignment on objectives, and timely delivery of technical milestones.
Provide expert guidance on technical decisions and best practices throughout the project, ensuring the integrity and security of the Cochlear Department's ICT infrastructure.
System Architecture and Design:
Lead the design and architecture of the upgraded Cochlear Department systems, including hardware, software, and network components, ensuring scalability, security, and seamless integration with existing clinical and hospital systems.
Work with vendors and internal teams to evaluate, select, and integrate new technologies that align with the department's needs and regulatory requirements.
Ensure the solution's design supports the latest healthcare standards, including data privacy, compliance (e.g., GDPR), and patient care requirements.
Deployment and Configuration Management:
Oversee the deployment and configuration of all hardware and software components required for the system upgrade, including desktops, medical devices, and mobile devices.
Ensure all devices and systems are deployed with the latest configurations, applications, and security settings, tailored to the Cochlear Department's specific workflows and use cases.
Manage system imaging, device deployment, and integration testing to ensure smooth transitions and minimal disruption to clinical operations.
Stakeholder Collaboration and Change Management:
Serve as the primary technical liaison between the Cochlear Department, IT, clinical teams, and external vendors to ensure alignment of technical and operational objectives.
Provide expert-level support and consultation to clinical staff and end-users on new system features, functionality, and workflows.
Lead technical change management efforts, ensuring all stakeholders are effectively onboarded to the upgraded system through training, documentation, and support.
Security, Compliance, and Risk Management:
Ensure the Cochlear Department's upgraded systems comply with relevant healthcare regulations, including security protocols and patient data protection standards.
Implement robust security measures, including encryption, access control, and vulnerability management, to protect sensitive patient data and clinical information.
Proactively identify and mitigate risks associated with the upgrade, ensuring all potential issues are addressed before they impact operations.
Training, Documentation, and Knowledge Sharing:
Develop and deliver training sessions for clinical and technical staff on new systems, applications, and workflows.
Create comprehensive technical documentation for system configurations, deployment procedures, troubleshooting, and ongoing support.
Foster a culture of continuous improvement by sharing knowledge and lessons learned throughout the upgrade process.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide technical support and troubleshooting, ensuring any issues are addressed promptly and efficiently.
Contribute to ongoing system enhancements and optimisations based on user feedback and emerging technological advancements.
Serve as a subject matter expert for the Cochlear Department's technical needs, offering strategic input on future upgrades or innovations, including the move to the new CHI hospital.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
Mandatory:
A Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
Proven experience (7+ years) as a Senior ICT Engineer or Technical Lead.
Strong expertise in desktop systems, medical devices, software applications, and network infrastructure.
Experience in system architecture, design, and deployment.
Proven ability to lead complex technical projects, including vendor management, timelines, and resource allocation.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels and communicate complex technical information to non-technical staff.
Strong leadership and mentoring skills with the ability to guide teams through complex technical challenges.
Desirable:
Proven experience (7+ years) as a Senior ICT Engineer or Technical Lead, particularly within healthcare or clinical environments.
Experience specifically with Cochlear Department or medical device integration, including systems supporting hearing and cochlear implants.
Advanced knowledge of healthcare compliance standards and medical system integration.
In-depth experience with network security, endpoint protection, and vulnerability management in healthcare environments.
