Backend & Data Engineer - Ratings & Reviews (Hybrid)

Product ratings and reviews provide Zalando's customers access to authentic, detailed, and diverse feedback on products and empower them to make confident purchase decisions.
Zalando is making significant investments into its ratings and review experiences and to achieve this are forming a new dedicated team with a mission to elevate the experience to best in class for our customers, while also achieving significant business impact for the business.
As part of this new team, Zalando is seeking a talented Software/Data Engineer to work with us to develop the technical backend and frontend capabilities required to enable over 50 million customers to gain insights from over 100 million ratings and reviews.
While this position will involve a mix of disciplines on backend components, such as backend APIs, databases, and data pipelines as our needs to process the reviews and gleam insights for customer experiences evolve.
We are looking for a highly skilled and motivated candidate with experience with strong development experience in either backend or data engineering, and a strong interest in developing their capabilities across the two disciplines.
This will primarily involve working with systems including backend APIs, databases, data pipelines; with a technology stack of Python, Kotlin, Kubernetes, RESTful APIs, PostgreSQL and GraphQL.
WHAT WE'D LOVE YOU TO DO (AND LOVE DOING)
As an Engineer you will play a role in the development, deployment and production monitoring across team's backend and data systems.
You will build and maintain software architecture across our data products that evolve over time.
Be part of an agile cross functional team that delivers high-performance software across backend and data engineering systems, contributing and guiding technical decisions as required
You will continuously ship high quality testable and reliable systems.
You will be agile, iteratively test features with stakeholders while keeping the big picture in mind.
You will have a focus on team processes, automation, communication and collaboration to support the velocity and output of the team.
You are a smart and enthusiastic engineer with strong technical experience and skills, who cares about solving tangible customer problems.
You have proven experience (at least 4 years plus) with JVM-based languages like Java or Kotlin and/or Spark and Databrick.
You know how to work with relational databases.
You are familiar with the entire software development life cycle which includes design patterns, API specifications, quality assurance and testing methods.
You have experience of production level data engineering systems, and working on projects using technologies such as Databricks, Airflow, Spark and Python is a distinct advantage
You can thrive in a collaborative environment involving many different stakeholders, including Data Science teams.
