What you'll do The Mobility lab team is responsible for the creation of new environments, as well as the operational support of existing ones.
The team works closely with other maritime, and aircraft system datacenter engineers to build and support reliable, compliant, and operational labs that Viasat's developers, test teams and customers can use.
This role is a hybrid work role but weekly onsite work is required.
This role may require occasional travel, including international travel. The day-to-day The Datacenter engineer will help build and maintain new mobility test and development labs for the internal and external customers.
In addition, the engineer will build out and maintain the internal infrastructure and systems that provide the services the mobility labs are built.
This requires integration with existing network and deployed systems and documenting the as-built procedures as well as a framework for supporting the deployed systems.
You will work directly with other datacenter engineers to deploy these systems as well as cross-team with professionals from other functions that will assist in network integration. Examples of day to day tasks include: Install and configure hardware (i.e.
servers, switches, routers, and power distribution units (PDUs) and software, rack and run cablesRun, label and dress cabling necessary for interconnected systemsLinux and windows administrationSecurity posturing and implementationNetwork monitoring and managementCreate and maintain diagrams, documentation and guides related to lab infrastructure, setup and processesProvide technical support to the other teams, troubleshooting and diagnosing issues with the environment and our solutions.
Effectively communicating issues to management and higher-level technical supportEnsure that reporting is accurate and provided in a timely mannerOther Datacenter operations as needed What you'll need Troubleshooting and triaging of system alerts for mid-level issues.Able to effectively work with other team members to resolve issues and able to suggest and develop practical, rapid solutions for day-to-day issuesExperience with typical application landscape within an enterprise data center environmentExperience with implementing and maintaining virtualized environments (e.g.
VMware, KVM, etc.
)Strong experience with Linux and Windows system administration including security and patch management.Solid understanding of networking principles including networking protocols, basic routing, ports, and firewallsExperience with supporting hardware (Dell/HP servers, NetApp storage, and multi-vendor network devices) in virtualized environmentsThe ability to run, and terminate cables in a lab environment including cable fabricationDiscover opportunities for automation by identifying manual, repetitive, tactical operational workloads and develop automation scripts, tools, and/or frameworks to optimize and standardize.Can function Independently for tasks assignedTroubleshoot and resolve complex issues in heterogenous environments for engineers and customersExceptional organizing and time-management skillsAbility to work across multi-functional teams and with geographically distributed teamsGood written and oral communication skillsTravel up to 10% What will help you on the job Have completed a degree in a technical subject (Engineering/Physics/Computing/Networking/etc.
)One or more related technical certifications Linux+, Network+, Cisco or Juniper network certifications, AWS or similar.Basic knowledge of commercial avionics systems (115v/400Hz, ARINC standards, A600 Connectors, Quadrax, trays etc.
)Satellite/Wireless communications experienceScripting experience using Python, JavaScript, REST or equivalent language.Server virtualization or AWS/Cloud experienceKnowledge or experience with tools such as Git, Artifactory, Jenkins, Puppet, Ansible, Docker#LI-Hybrid
