YMCA West DublinAt a glanceMin Hours: 1 hour weeklyTasks:The YMCA ONE2ONE CHILD/YOUTH Mentoring Programme requires a commitment from the volunteer mentor to meet a young person for an hour each week throughout the school year and give one to-one support to 'vulnerable' young people aged 8-14 years.Mentors will be matched with a young "Mentee" and be supported to carry out mentoring in a communal setting at the YMCA.ONE2ONE mentoring meetings are held from 6.30 pm to 8.00 pm on Monday evenings at the YMCA in Brookfield, West Tallaght.After the meetings, all mentors participate in a group supervision session, which is facilitated by the YMCA One2One Manager.This lasts about 30 minutes.All Mentors must participate in a training program which is available throughout the year.ONE2ONE uses active listening and simple activities such as board games etc. to help mentees to build positive relationships with adults and peers as well as developing interests and skills that can be sustained by the young person in the longer term.ONE2ONE provides at a pivotal time, in their lives, additional safe and supportive space in which young people can grow to their full potential.The YMCA in Ireland is a voluntary organisation that works with children, young people, families and the community, with particular regard to those who are disadvantaged and disaffected.The YMCA believes in supporting young people to achieve their potential and their goals.Young people should be given the opportunity to participate actively in their community.The YMCA, while underpinned by Christian principles, works with people of all faiths and of none, responds to local need and seeks to share and learn from being a part of a national and international movement.Responsibilities:Ability to focus on and understand the needs, concerns, and feelings of the mentee, helping them feel heard and valuedBeing able to effectively and clearly express thoughts while maintaining an approachable and non-judgmental demeanourUnderstanding and relating to the emotional experiences of vulnerable young people, building trust and offering supportEstablishing a positive, respectful, and trusting relationship with young people through engaging activities and conversationWorking with YMCA staff, other mentors, and participating in supervision sessions to share experiences and seek guidanceAbility to make mentoring sessions engaging and enjoyable through activities like board games, helping the young person to develop interests and social skillsOngoing support in developing skills will be given.Requirements:Community Development/ Social workEducation/ TrainingHospitality/ BefriendingPersonable SkillsLevel of English Required:Age Restrictions:Over 18Time and Commitment Required for this Role:Minimum time commitment: 1 yearHours required: 1 hour weeklyScreening Details for this Role:Garda VettingInformal InterviewsReferencesApplication FormVolunteers will be Provided with the Following Supports:Support/ advice/ recognitionSupervisionInitial induction and trainingReimbursement of expensesInsurance coverOngoing training opportunitiesSuitable for Volunteers with the Following Challenges:Physical DisabilityBenefits You Will Receive as a Volunteer:You will see the positive developmental change that occurs through a mentoring relationship in the course of a year.#J-*****-Ljbffr
