Senior Process Engineer – Thermal SystemsAstatine Limited is a specialised energy company founded by a highly experienced management team with a proven track record of entrepreneurial, commercial, and technical success.Astatine develop, design, construct, operate, fund (if required) and maintain multi-technology assets to enable an acceleration toward zero carbon for energy users across multiple sectors.The key values of our company are collaboration, innovation, urgency and integrity.Our core technologies include solar PV, battery energy storage, and heat pumps.This is a huge growth area forecast for the next 20 years, and the successful candidate will have the opportunity to upskill in these technologies, their applications and design considerations.Due to continued growth and expansion, the company is now seeking to recruit a Senior Process Engineer.Position Title:Join our team as aSenior Process Engineerand contribute to the end-to-end development of heating and cooling solutions for industrial and energy projects.This role spans concept to commissioning, with a focus on process design, mechanical design, equipment selection, and system integration with opportunities to work on innovative technologies like heat pumps and thermal storage.Experience with heat pump systems is a strong advantage.The successful candidate will design complex high temperature heat pump systems, and integrate them to the client's process.This will need acute attention to detail, strong theoretical knowledge and practical experience.Supported by a team, you will need leadership skills to develop less experienced engineers and use resources effectively.Salary:Negotiable based on relevant experienceStart Date:ASAPLocation:Hybrid working model – Work from Astatine's offices located in Guinness Enterprise Centre, Dublin 8 when required, otherwise work remotely/from home.Contract Type:Full Time ContractWorking Hours:Full time – Monday to FridayReports To:Alan SmythKey Responsibilities1. Process Design & Analysis:Perform detailedheat and mass balance calculationsfor thermal systems and prepare process flow diagrams.Conductdata analysison process performance to inform design decisions, system optimization, and energy efficiency improvements.Develop process simulation models to evaluate system behaviour and design alternatives.Contribute to the development of P&IDs and control philosophies detailing system operation and logic.2. Equipment and Piping DesignEquipment selection including pumps, heat exchangers, valves (manual, control, safety), thermal stratification tanks, etc.Design piping systems including line sizing, routing, and hydraulic calculations.Apply knowledge of heat pump technology to augment system performance.Sound technical knowledge and proven experience in designing hydraulic distribution systems and integrating heat pump technologies into broader process systems or site-wide thermal networks serving multiple usersPrepare technical specifications, review vendor bids, and support procurement processes.Assist with cost estimation, budgeting, and value engineering during design and proposal phases.Evaluate project risks and recommend design alternatives where appropriate.5.Construction and Commissioning Support:Provide field engineering support during construction, testing, and commissioning.Ensure compliance with design intent and resolve technical issues as they arise.6.
