Job Description
A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Maintenance Manager, at our site in Carlow. The Maintenance Manager is accountable for site maintenance, including related personnel, associated equipment and all activities affecting them. Provides leadership, cross functional development, and technical expertise in all aspects of machine and equipment maintenance programs.
Our site in Carlow is a state-of-the-art, 200,000 sq ft vaccines and biologics facility focused on formulating and filling vaccine and biologic products that improve and transform the lives of people across the world.

Key responsibilities will include:
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of FTEs and contractors, fostering a culture prioritizing diversity, inclusion, safety, quality, and compliance.
- Manage equipment improvement projects ensuring projects are executed in a timely, safe, and cost-effective manner, meeting customer and compliance requirements.
- Accountable for maintenance related schedule planning, schedule adherence, tasks, and resources in maintenance and cross functionally; partner with colleagues and third parties to perform vendor management, communications, training, project work, audit/inspection duties etc.; thereby ensuring department is audit/inspection ready.
- Accountable for ensuring process and production equipment are maintained, ensuring ongoing preventative maintenance, equipment troubleshooting and repairs to ensure continuous, reliable, and repeatable operation of all equipment; drive Total Productive Maintenance.
- Oversee operation and monitoring of maintenance/project activities and support equipment, using compliance systems.
- Accountable for effective maintenance planning and preventative maintenance through completion of planned and emergency work orders, calibrations, PMs etc.
- Ensure that objectives are effectively achieved, consistent with company requirements to ensure compliance, safety, and reliable supply to our customers.
- Leadership activities including selection, development, coaching and day to day management.
- Ensure that the team receives appropriate resources and programmes to develop technical and other skills, to complete their jobs whilst stimulating personal growth and development in line with role.
- Develop and maintain training programmes.
- Accountable for compliance via documentation completion, risk assessments, closing out corrective action; participate in audits and inspections and proactively highlighting any issues around compliance.
- Accountable for maintenance and project related budget setting and subsequent adherence to the budget and spend targets.
- Ensuring housekeeping and materials management in all maintenance areas are kept to standard, whilst driving continuous process improvements using Lean Principles, to ensure optimum equipment uptime and target outputs.
- Working with the IPT Leader and colleagues, ensure effective short-, medium- and long-term strategies and direction for the IPT function, ensuring Company objectives are achieved effectively.
- Collaborate with multiple partners (e.g. company network, third parties, vendors, quality, project managers, donor sites and technical operations) in achieving excellence in IPT/maintenance programmes.
- Represent IPT department in site governance meetings and lead/participate in site initiatives/teams as required; and represent IPT Carlow at global technical forums.
- Support profit plan activities. Provide direct support to for all validation and qualification activities.
- Evaluate program activities and systems and targets areas for program, personnel resource, and system-related improvements. Prepare periodic reports for leadership and above site review.
- Monitor program workload, team projects and special studies to ensure adequate personnel resources to perform activities.
- Working with the Project team members, ensure the effective implementation of the capital and OPEX project programmes to ensure projects are started, approved, and executed in a timely manner to meet customer requirements and cost schedules.
- Accountable for all site documentation of maintenance work, including upgrades, made to existing equipment, including preventative maintenance performed and parts used, to ensure appropriate documentation and records of repair history, is to Company standard.
- Oversee the management and equipment shutdown scheduling, ensuring resources are available, thereby minimizing downtime.
- Drive effective writing/revising/ rolling out of accurate operational procedures, training documents and maintenance procedures for various IPT systems; ensure all work is subsequently carried out in line with same.
- Ensure correct operation, troubleshooting and repair of complex systems which may include CIP, Autoclaves, Glassware Washers, production vessels, HVAC, Isolators, compressed gasses, plant steam/condensate, bulk chemical distribution and wastewater treatment in a highly regulated, cGMP environment.
- Ensure correct interpretation of P&ID's, equipment/system layouts, wiring diagrams, and specifications in planning and performing maintenance and repairs.
- Accountable for equipment reliability and performance by facilitating effective systems for identification of root cause failures, recommendations, and implementation of improvement changes throughout processes, ensuring calibrations of equipment are performed, as necessary.
- Drive continuous improvement by sponsoring, leading, and driving participation in repairs, upgrades, preventative maintenance and system failure investigations and investigation reports, execution/development of change control, and contribution to Kaizen events as appropriate.
- Manage root cause analysis of system failures, substandard equipment performance, using standard tools and methods, to resolve machine and system issues.
- Ensure efficient supply of information and technical data for securing spare parts and equipment asset entry into the CMMS; liaise directly with vendors on supply of parts, upgrades to systems etc as necessary.
- Manage general facility upkeep and responsive customer support with emphasis on customer satisfaction. Sponsor and drive compliance of company Global Policies, Procedures and Guidelines, regulatory requirements and execute current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) in the performance of day-to-day activities and all applicable job functions.
- Work collaboratively to drive a safe and compliant culture in Carlow.
Your profile:
- Level 7 Degree or higher preferred; ideally in a Science, Engineering, or other technical discipline
- Considerable experience in a comparable role; would typically have experience operating as a senior professional and adding considerable value to the business; in a GMP manufacturing setting.
- Understanding of mechanical/electrical/pneumatic equipment and processes and Sterile filling processes.
- Awareness of Equipment and process validation desired knowledge of regulatory/code requirements to Irish, European and International Codes, Standards and Practices Report, standards, policy writing skills required.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and job-related computer applications required.
