Design Project Engineer

Overview
As an Amazon Project Design Mechanical Engineer, you will lead design projects in operational data centers that remediate issues, upgrade existing infrastructure, or add new services.
You will be the key engineering resource for these projects and provide lifecycle support from design through implementation.
You will use your mechanical expertise to own the design for data center upgrades, perform design and equipment submittal reviews, and interface with internal and external teams to promote standards that ensure consistency and reliability.
You will work on concurrent projects across multiple geographical regions and act as a technical subject matter expert during remediation projects.
You will support construction, commissioning, operations, and turnover, with opportunities to work on local and global projects.

Key responsibilities
Perform design and equipment submittal review for data centers in your region.
Interface with internal and external data center design engineering teams, server hardware teams, environmental health and safety teams, field engineering, and controls engineering to promote standards that maintain consistency and reliability in services delivered.
Work on concurrent projects, sometimes in multiple geographical regions.
Act as a technical subject matter expert for your discipline during new remediation projects.
Support construction, commissioning, operations, and turnover.
Possess strong engineering judgment and provide design recommendations despite uncertainty.
Be detail- and data-oriented with familiarity with design/construction processes.
Have experience managing engineering projects and engineering consultants.
Build trust and relationships with stakeholders (e.g., Operations, Commissioning, Construction and Design).
Manage design and as-built drawings and documents; prepare and present progress reports to stakeholders.
Be inclined to visit the field to observe operations up close.
Interact with teams responsible for all aspects of data centers and prioritize activities to support safety, remediation, capacity, and availability.
Day-in-the-life
Each day you will interact with different teams responsible for various aspects of the data centers.
You will mentor and oversee the work of junior engineers in your discipline.
You will have the opportunity to work on projects locally and globally, with up to 25% travel.

Qualifications
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor ?
s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.
2+ years of design experience with industrial or commercial engineering in mission-critical facilities.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Organized with the ability to set priorities and meet deadlines and budgets.
Knowledge of building codes and regulations for your region.
Ability to carry design concepts through exploration, development, and deployment.
Excellent communication and writing skills, attention to detail, and high quality standards.
