Assistant Director of Financial Management (Public Sector) VANRATH are delighted to be partnering with a large public sector organisation in Belfast as they recruit for an Assistant Director of Financial Management to join them on an interim basis.

The Assistant Director of Financial Management will support the Director of Finance in managing the financial operations of the wider organisation.

This role will oversee budgeting, financial planning, and reporting, ensuring compliance with public sector financial regulations and the effective use of public funds.

Key Responsibilities: Financial Planning & Strategy: Assist in the development of financial strategies and annual budget preparation.

Support long-term financial planning and ensure financial resources are aligned with organisational goals.

Financial Reporting & Management: Oversee the preparation and delivery of financial reports.

Monitor financial performance, identifying trends and potential risks.

Ensure compliance with public sector accounting standards.

Budget Management: Support the budgeting process and ensure financial resources are allocated efficiently.

Monitor budget performance and provide corrective actions when necessary.

Compliance & Governance: Ensure adherence to relevant financial regulations and public sector governance frameworks.

Liaise with auditors and stakeholders to ensure compliance with financial requirements.

Team Leadership & Development: Lead and support the financial management team, ensuring continuous development and high performance.

Key Requirements: Qualifications: A professional accounting qualification (e.g., ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA or equivalent).

A degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field is preferred.

Experience: At least 3-5 years of experience in financial management, preferably in the public sector.

Experience in budgeting, financial reporting, and compliance.

Skills: Strong understanding of financial management and accounting principles.

Leadership and communication skills with the ability to work across teams.

Proficiency with financial software and reporting tools.
