Advertising self-regulation is necessary to ensure that advertisers are acting responsibly, producing advertising that promotes consumer confidence, a level competitive playing field and an environment in which consumer choice and trust can thrive.
Operating in a complex and dynamic advertising eco system, we engage, consult and coordinate as appropriate with relevant governmental agencies and a broad range of industry and non-industry stakeholders to ensure a high functioning self-regulatory framework exists in Ireland.
As we are embarking on a review and revision of the ASAs 7th Code edition, ASA is creating a dedicated temporary role to lead research, external consultation, formulation of draft policy positions and redraft/draft Code content that is contemporary and future proofed.
The successful candidate will likely be a suitably qualified individual with a legal/quasi-legal background and a proven track record in research, consultation processes, policy development and drafting nuanced text on complex multi-faceted areas, reflecting diverse stakeholder interests.
Working closely with members of the ASA Senior Management Team and Executive Team, this individual will ensure that all codes, guidelines, and protocols align with current legal and regulatory requirements.
The Role Key Responsibilities: The main focus of the role will be to Review, Research and Rewrite Code Standards: Work in accordance with a previously prescribed, phased and agreed programme of work to deliver this project against organisational timelines Initiate the discovery phase of the Code revision through research of other relevant Code equivalents and law at National, European and International levels Identify and advise on the implications of emerging practices and technologies that may impact Code content Conduct the end-to-end consultation process, to include identifying appropriate parties and contacts, managing the communications, designing a consultation process, collating, analysing and consolidating the outputs and relating the outcomes to the Code review process Broadly take into account advertising industry practices for consideration with the content drafting process Lead an iterative drafting process through creating and presenting draft options and recommendations to the ASA Executive and team members as needed Analyse and rewrite, as appropriate, existing Code standards, ensuring they comply with advertising related regulations Ensure that all advertising regulatory practices, code implementations, and standards comply with relevant local, national, and international laws Take full account of the ASA Constitution to ensure that all changes are congruent with the Constitution Prepare and present research and drafts to our internal ASA Board-led working group and to the ASA Board as appropriate Consistent collaboration and consultation throughout the project including liaising with internal and external stakeholders Liaise with ASA Advisers as appropriate for review and input Provide training and resources for internal team on new code standards Contribute towards the development of information materials and briefing content to inform and advise stakeholders of new Code content and comparison with the existing edition The Candidate The successful candidate will have a legal qualification or from a suitably related field Preferably have worked in a legal or regulatory framework including the application of rules and regulations and their adoption in practice Strong understanding or demonstrable appreciation of legal frameworks relevant to marketing and communications, including data protection laws, intellectual property, consumer protection laws, and ethical advertising practices Proven ability to identify, interpret and appropriately apply nuance in written formats Strong written and verbal communication skills to translate complex legal concepts into clearly understood code standards Ability to collaborate and influence effectively particularly where stakeholder competing interests may arise Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills Strong personal organisation and IT skills with the ability to work to a high degree of accuracy under time pressure Our position presents the opportunity for you to join us on a temporary Contract basis for a likely duration period of circa 18 months (and possibly for up to consecutive 24 months in total).
The role is structured on a 4 day week, Monday to Thursday, 10am to 4pm (with a 30 minute unpaid break) and requiring some flexibility around hours worked as business needs arise.
After an initial office based period, the role is suited to hybrid working that blends workplace and remote working on a weekly basis.
