The laboratory is fully accredited by the Irish National accreditation Board, Reg no 153 MT and the Hospital is JCI accredited.
The Haematology Laboratory at BSH Cork provides routine haematology and specialised diagnostic services to the hospital and to outpatients.
Serving a Medical Assessment Unit, acute and elective admissions, and a busy surgical programme, in excess of 100,000 requests for blood testing are received annually.
The diagnostic haematology service provided includes full blood counts and blood film examination and routine coagulation screening.
Specialised diagnostic services support the diagnosis and management of Haematological Cancers and supports the hospitals extensive oncology service.
The Laboratory is overseen by 3 Consultant Haematologists.
Applications are invited for the above position from suitably qualified and experienced candidates.
The ideal candidates must: Have the required qualifications for a Medical Scientist post as stipulated by the Department of Health A postgraduate degree in the field of Medical Laboratory Science Applicants must be eligible for Fellowship of The ACSLM Applicants must be a registered Medical Scientist with CORU.
6 Years' experience in a Medical Laboratory post qualification, two of which must have been as a Senior Medical Scientist in Haematology.
Have excellent planning & organisational skills.
Have excellent leadership, interpersonal and people management skills.
Have excellent IT skills Be flexible and capable of working independently and as part of a team Be innovative, enthusiastic and self motivated Have experience in supervisory management and training and a qualification in same is also desirable.
