Job Title: Diesel Engine Technician

Skills:

  • Inspect diesel engines for defects or malfunctioning and diagnose problems using computerized diagnostic equipment.
  • Perform routine tasks such as changing oil and filters.
  • Repair or replace faulty engine components.
  • Test vehicles to ensure proper operation after repairs.
  • Optimize engine performance and fuel efficiency by adjusting controls.
  • Service and repair fuel injection systems.
  • Perform brake service and repair on diesel-powered vehicles.
  • Rebuild or replace transmission or powertrain components.
  • Diagnose and fix electrical system malfunctions.
  • Service and repair exhaust gas and emission control systems.
  • Maintain and repair AC and heating systems in diesel engines.
  • Fabricate parts and components using welding equipment when vehicle frames or parts are severely damaged.
  • Follow technical manuals for proper repair and servicing procedures.
  • Keep detailed records of repairs and maintenance.
  • Advise customers on vehicle problems and necessary repairs.
  • Estimate costs and time required for jobs.
  • Order supplies and parts; maintain inventory.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas and tools.
  • Follow safety procedures and regulations.
  • Perform preventive maintenance to minimize breakdowns.
  • Upgrade or retrofit older diesel engines to meet emissions standards.
  • Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic systems in construction equipment.
  • Mentor junior mechanics and train apprentices.
  • Stay updated with the latest diesel engine technologies and repair techniques.
