Here, you can find more purpose, more passion, and more potential. That's why working here is #MoreThanACareer. We do energy differently—we do it all. We make it, store it, move it, sell it, and mend it.
About your team:
We're the pride of Ireland. Bord Gais Energy have been powering the nations homes and businesses for almost 40 years. But now, we're so much more than just gas and electric.
Through our unique combination of household heroes and energy assets, we're at the heart of the energy transition in Ireland, strengthening the country's energy security and helping customers get ready for a future that doesn't rely on fossil fuels.
About your role:
Two 100MW flexible gas fired peaking power plants are currently being constructed in Athlone and Dublin. A small O&M Team within Bord Gáis Energy Assets Operations will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of these plants on a 24/7 basis. This O&M Team currently comprises a Plant Manager and a Maintenance Support Engineer.
We're currently seeking Maintenance Technicians to form part of this O&M Team. These Maintenance Technicians will be based at the peaking power plants and their duties will include implementation of critical permit to work systems, 'hands on' inspection and maintenance of the power plant systems, management and supervision of external maintenance contractors, project management and the provision of out of hours on call technical support to ensure compliance with key Eirgrid and EPA licence requirements.
Here's what you'll be doing:
- Consistently live the Bord Gáis Energy company values and demonstrate the expected safety and quality standards on site as an example to other staff, contractors and visitors.
- Develop, implement and carry out inspections and maintenance plans on the power plant systems to ensure the consistent generation of electricity to meet Eirgrid requirements, achieving best business value in compliance with health and safety standards, environmental licence requirements and other statutory requirements.
- Management of plant underperformance issues, including plant and equipment failures, promptly so that the availability and reliability of the power plant is maximised.
- Investigate complex technical problems on power plant systems by identifying and diagnosing the root cause of such problems and ensuring continuous improvement to avoid reoccurrence.
- Management of improvement projects and in collaboration with the wider O&M Team, identify and implement solutions to technical problems and defects to optimise plant performance and meet operational targets.
- Ownership of key contracts by developing and agreeing the scope and commercial terms through to supervising and monitoring the safe delivery and performance of external contractors.
- Provide highly flexible on-call cover for out of hours (nights and weekends), on a rostered basis, to respond to technical issues that might arise.
- Prepare work method statements, risk assessments and standard operating procedures for inspections and maintenance activities.
- Implementation of critical permit to work systems and adherence to safe working practices and procedures at all times.
Here's what we're looking for:
- Minimum trade qualification in an electrical, control and instrumentation field or a mechanical engineering field. A Cert/Diploma/Senior Trades in engineering or equivalent is required.
- A minimum of five years of experience within the power generation industry or similar is desirable.
- Experience and technical knowledge of power station maintenance or maintenance practices in similar heavy process industries.
- Experience in the maintenance of electrical, control & instrumentation systems in a power generation environment (or a similar environment with complex control and instrumentation systems) OR experience in the operation and maintenance of prime movers (such as CHP engines, diesel generators, heavy plant/marine engines, etc.)
Why should you apply?
We're not a perfect place, we're a people place. Our priority is supporting all of the different realities our people face. Life is about so much more than work. We get it. That's why we've designed our total rewards to give you the flexibility to choose what you need, when you need it, making sure that you and your family are supported not only financially, but physically and emotionally too.
If you're full of energy, fired up about sustainability, and ready to craft not only a better tomorrow, but a better you, then come and find your purpose in a team where your voice matters, your growth is non-negotiable, and your ambitions are our priority.
