EY's Economic Advisory team is looking to expand significantly in the coming months to capture exciting opportunities and answer major challenges on the island of Ireland. Challenges from a more fractious global economy, geopolitical forces, rising talent and property costs, a need to reduce environmental costs and an acute pressure on public services and infrastructure make it an exciting and interesting time for economists.
The opportunity
We are seeking highly motivated candidates at Executive and Manager Level to join the team to help continue this expansion. There are currently opportunities in our Dublin, Cork and Belfast offices and the roles are predominantly focused on all-island work.
Successful applicants will work across a range of economic areas including: business case development, cost benefit analysis, economic impact assessment, economic modelling, econometrics, policy evaluation, forecasting, sectoral analysis and strategy.
Roles are full-time permanent positions and are not as part of a training contract. There is no requirement to complete accountancy (ACCA/ACA) or Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) exams, though this can be considered if candidates wish to pursue accreditation.
Your key responsibilities
Executives will be expected to help deliver economic projects. They will work closely with the existing team and across EY to support our clients. Managers will be expected to lead small projects and take part in broader team initiatives.
Skills and attributes for success
Suitable applicants will be highly numerate and analytical graduates of Economics, Finance, Business Politics, Geography or related subject with strong report writing skills. Executives will have a minimum of 2 years and Managers will have a minimum of 5 years of work experience in economics or a similar role.
To qualify for the role you must have
- An ability to solve complex problems in a logical and structured manner
- Experience of applying economic theory to public policy or corporate issues
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including an ability to explain complex technical issues to a non-technical audience
- Excellent inter-personal skills and ability to work effectively within a team
Ideally, you'll also have
- A keen interest in economic issues on the island of Ireland
- Specific sectoral knowledge (agriculture, health, transport, energy, IT, real estate)
- Interest in identifying new areas of business development and innovative solutions to complex problem solving
- Strong leadership skills, willingness to learn and a positive attitude
What will I be doing
Typical activities include the following:
- Working under the supervision of Associate Directors, Directors or Partners within Strategy and Transactions as well as other Ernst & Young departments in both Ireland and internationally on high-profile public and private sector projects
- Working effectively as a team member by sharing responsibility, providing support, maintaining communication and updating senior members on progress.
- Understanding our client requirements, co-developing our approach with the client, and providing value to our clients through insights, factual conclusions and advice.
- Applying economic concepts to decision-making.
- Building bespoke excel models
- Understanding, manipulating and interpreting data and client information, drawing appropriate conclusions.
- Carrying out relevant analysis and present your findings (both written and orally).
- Day to day progression of assignments to include; planning, preparing and reviewing various forms of deliverables to include reports and presentations.
- A focus on anticipating and identifying risks that require escalation and subsequently escalating these risks to more senior staff as appropriate.
- Working closely with colleagues you will ensure that work is properly executed, documented and concluded in compliance with our Quality & Risk Management guidelines.
- As an influential member of the team, you will help to create a positive learning culture. You will be responsible for mentoring and developing more junior members of staff and providing constructive feedback on both a formal and informal basis.
- Maintaining and constantly upgrading technical knowledge and personal skills.
People responsibilities
- Develop network of contacts (internal & external)
- Seek regular feedback on individual assignments and regular guidance from counsellor
- Manage own time to budgets and communicate progress against plan to assignment manager
- Identifying issues and drawing to attention of Partner/Director and contributing to discussions
