ICT &Security Design Engineer
We are seeking an Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and Security Design Engineer to join our Digital Services team in our Dublin office. As Ethos Engineering enters this very exciting and emerging design service within the built environment, we are looking for the right candidate who has been involved in a diverse and challenging range of projects across multiple industries. As an integral member of our Digital Services team, you will be responsible for leading and managing projects while also helping to grow the business.
About you:
- Educational Background: Bachelor's degree in Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Engineering, or a related engineering/technology discipline. Advanced degrees or specialised certifications in relevant fields are advantageous.
- Professional Certifications: Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD) Certification: Highly desirable, demonstrating expertise in the design, implementation, integration, and project management of telecommunications systems.
- Project Management Certification: Preferred qualifications include certifications in methodologies such as Agile, Scrum, and Lean, along with proficiency in project planning tools and software (e.g., Microsoft Project, JIRA).
- Technical Expertise: Comprehensive knowledge and/or design certifications in key ICT and security technologies, including but not limited to VoIP Solutions, IP Networks, IPTV, Audio-Visual (AV) systems, Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS), WiFi, Public Mobile Radio (PMR), Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV), Electronic Access Control Systems (EACS), and Passive Intrusion Detection Systems (PIDs).
- Standards and Compliance: Strong understanding of EN/ISO/BS standards, regulations, and codes relevant to ICT and security systems. Familiarity with IT systems certification standards to ensure compliance and quality in design and implementation.
- Design and Documentation Skills: Proficient in CAD software for document handling and drawing production, ensuring accurate and detailed technical documentation.
- Experience working within Building Information Modelling (BIM) environments, contributing to collaborative design processes and precise drawing production.
- Project Experience: Proven track record in ICT and Security infrastructure design within the built environment, including projects such as data centres, commercial buildings, university campuses, fit-outs, and relocation initiatives. Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects from conception through to completion.
- Continuous Professional Development (CPD): Demonstrable commitment to ongoing professional development in engineering and technology subjects, maintaining up-to-date knowledge of industry advancements and best practices.
- Software Proficiency: Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Microsoft Project, enabling effective documentation, data analysis, and project management.
- Additional Skills and Attributes: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to conduct cost-benefit analyses and evaluate system investments.
- Excellent communication and coordination abilities, capable of leading technical meetings and collaborating with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to ensuring that all specifications, drawings, and calculations meet industry, legal, and quality standards.
- Additional Skills and Attributes: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to conduct cost-benefit analyses and evaluate system investments.
- Software Proficiency: Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Microsoft Project, enabling effective documentation, data analysis, and project management.
Your day-to-day activities:
- Design, Specification, and Implementation of ICT and Security Systems: Demonstrated expertise in the comprehensive design, precise specification, and effective implementation of integrated ICT and security systems, ensuring alignment with organisational objectives and adherence to industry standards.
- Proven Capabilities in ICT and Security Infrastructure: Extensive experience in developing and managing ICT and security infrastructure, including multi-media communication facilities and systems such as structured cabling, networking, Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS), WiFi, Audio-Visual (AV) technologies, Video Surveillance Systems (VSS), access control systems, and intrusion detection systems.
- Cost-Benefit Analysis and Investment Appraisal: Proficient in conducting detailed cost-benefit analyses of ICT and security systems, evaluating system investments, performing comprehensive market studies, and navigating regulatory and licensing requirements to inform strategic decision-making.
- Data Acquisition and Needs Analysis: Skilled in performing thorough data acquisition and needs analysis to accurately identify and assess client requirements, ensuring that designed systems effectively address both operational and security needs.
- Coordination of ICT and Security Designs: Adept at coordinating ICT and security designs during technical meetings, collaborating seamlessly with technical counterparts across various engineering disciplines to ensure integrated and cohesive system architectures.
- Compliance with Industry Standards: Ensures that all specifications, technical drawings, and calculations comply with relevant industry, legal, and quality standards, maintaining high levels of compliance and excellence in system design and implementation.
- Facilitation of Peer and QA Reviews: Facilitates rigorous peer reviews and Quality Assurance (QA) assessments of all project documentation and technical drawings, promoting a culture of continuous improvement and adherence to best practices.
- Compliance with Industry Standards: Ensures that all specifications, technical drawings, and calculations comply with relevant industry, legal, and quality standards, maintaining high levels of compliance and excellence in system design and implementation.
- Coordination of ICT and Security Designs: Adept at coordinating ICT and security designs during technical meetings, collaborating seamlessly with technical counterparts across various engineering disciplines to ensure integrated and cohesive system architectures.
