Senior Process Development Engineer - Digital

Overview

An experienced engineer is required to lead the technical delivery of projects within the Digital Engineering team. This role involves managing people, overseeing R&D projects, and applying advanced modelling and simulation expertise to optimise pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the technical execution of R&D projects, ensuring high-quality delivery.
  • Manage and mentor engineers within the Digital Engineering team, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.
  • Develop and optimise pharmaceutical processes using modelling and simulation tools (e.g. CFD, Matlab, Python, R/Shiny, gProms, MVDA, Dynochem).
  • Oversee experimental planning, technology transfer, and process scale-up.
  • Solve complex technical challenges using data-driven insights and computational methods.
  • Drive innovation by enhancing digital engineering workflows and implementing new techniques.
  • Communicate project progress and technical findings through reports and presentations.

Requirements

  • Experienced engineer with strong leadership and people management skills.
  • PhD in Chemical/Biochemical Engineering (3+ years industry experience), MSc (5+ years), or BSc (7+ years).
  • Proven expertise in modelling, simulation, and process optimisation.
  • Strong problem-solving, project management, and communication abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment.
  • Expertise in PAT tools (e.g. FBRM, ATR-FTIR, Raman spectroscopy).
  • Experience with pharmaceutical/biopharmaceutical unit operations (e.g. crystallisation, drying, TFF, chromatography).
  • Knowledge of DoE, QbD, and process scale-up techniques.
